# Fashion and Beauty Influencer Marketing: A Guide for Shopify Brands

**The short answer:** fashion and beauty sell through seeing the product on a real person, so the best creator content shows fit, texture, shade and results up close. Work with creators who look like your customers, gift widely to find them, pay the ones who sell, and reuse their best content in ads. Keep claims honest, especially on what a product can do for skin or a body.

These categories suit creators for a simple reason: a shopper can't try anything on through a screen. A person with similar skin or a similar body type answers the question a product photo can't.

## What content works best for fashion and beauty brands?

| Format | Why it sells | What to ask for |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Try-on haul | Shows fit and fabric on a real body | Height and size stated; movement, not just poses |
| Get ready with me | Shows the product in a daily routine | Natural light, product named on screen |
| Tutorial | Teaches how to use it | A clear before and after, in one take where possible |
| Shade or size comparison | Answers the top buying question | Several creators, several skin tones or sizes |
| Wear or wear-test | Builds trust over time | A follow-up after a few weeks of real use |

Formats to test, not guarantees. Your tracked sales will show which ones sell for you.

## How do you choose fashion and beauty creators?

* **Match your customer** : Age, budget, style, skin type, size range. A smaller creator who looks like your buyer can beat a bigger one who doesn't.
* **Check how they talk about products** : Do they explain why something works, or just hold it up?
* **Look across shades and sizes** : If you sell a wide range, your creators should show it. Their content will answer more shoppers' questions.
* **Watch for category conflicts** : Beauty and fashion creators often work with many brands, so keep any exclusivity narrow and pay for it.

## What should a fashion and beauty brief include?

* The one thing you want viewers to remember, such as the shade range or the stretch.
* Claims they may and may not make. Never let a creator say a product treats a skin condition unless you have the evidence, and check that any such claim is legal for your product.
* Required details: size worn, shade, and a clear disclosure.
* What not to do: heavy filters on a shade review, or retouching on a result. Filtered results mislead buyers.

[American Eagle Outfitters' August 17, 2021 announcement](https://www.aeo-inc.com/2021/08/17/aerie-unveils-aeriereal-voices-campaign/) is a useful reference for the wider trend: it says that in 2014 Aerie "was among the first in the industry" to use unretouched campaign photos, and it has since built a campaign around its community of customers, ambassadors and partners.

## How do you pay fashion and beauty creators?

Seeding suits these categories because the product is what creators want to try. Start with [gifting](https://chargezen.com/blog/influencer-gifting-guide) to find people who like you, pay a flat fee for guaranteed content from the ones who stand out, and add a commission so they share in the sales. [Pura Vida's affiliate page](https://www.puravidabracelets.com/pages/affiliate-program) is one public example from accessories: up to 15% commission and a 30-day cookie, checked November 1, 2026. Set your own rate from your margin and return rate, using the [commission calculator](https://chargezen.com/tools/commission-calculator).

## How do returns change the math for fashion brands?

A fashion order isn't really a sale until the return window closes, because shoppers often order to try things on. Pay commissions after your return window, count returned orders out of each creator's numbers, and compare creators on sales you kept. A creator whose audience keeps what it buys may be worth more than one with higher gross sales.

## How does Spark! support fashion and beauty programs?

See [Spark! for fashion and beauty](https://chargezen.com/spark/fashion-beauty). Give each creator a tracking link, track [gift orders](https://chargezen.com/spark/product-seeding), write briefs and pay through contracts creators sign in their portal. Refunds and cancellations take commission back on their own, and payouts wait 28 days by default, which you can match to your return window.

Spark! is $199 a month or $1,990 a year, with no fee on your partners' sales. See [Spark!](https://chargezen.com/spark) and [pricing](https://chargezen.com/pricing).

## Frequently asked questions

### How do beauty brands find influencers?

Start with customers and creators who already mention you, then search for people who talk about your ingredients or concerns. Look at how they explain a product and how their comments respond, and test them with a gift before you pay a fee.

### Should fashion brands pay commission on returned orders?

No. Pay on sales you keep. Wait until your return window has closed before paying, and reverse commission on refunded orders so that a creator's earnings reflect what customers actually kept.

### Can a beauty influencer use filters in a sponsored post?

Avoid them on anything showing results. A filter that changes how a product looks can mislead buyers about what it does. Put this rule in your brief, and ask creators to show the product in natural light.

### Do gifted fashion and beauty products need disclosure?

In the US, yes, when the product was given with the expectation of promotion. The FTC's guidance says this applies however the product reached the creator, and that a tag alone doesn't disclose the connection.
