# Know why subscription revenue moved this month.

Ask how many subscriptions started, cancelled, paused or came back, what happened to monthly subscription revenue, and who left. Concierge answers for Chargezen subscriptions, Recharge subscriptions or both, reported side by side.

The problem

Subscription reports rarely agree, because every tool counts cancellations, pauses and monthly revenue a little differently. This playbook writes the definitions down and prints the ones it used, so this month can be compared fairly with last month.

## What it reads.

### Chargezen subscriptions

Subscription contracts, their change history and customer profiles.

### Recharge subscriptions

Recharge subscriptions and customers, read from your Recharge connection when the data is prepared.

### Order history

Your orders, when a customer's stored order count or spend is missing and needs recounting.

### Separate sources

Each source is reported on its own; one never fills in for the other. If Recharge isn't connected, it says why instead of showing numbers.

## The steps it follows.

1. 1

    ### Set the period

Start included, end excluded, in UTC unless you ask for your own calendar. The definitions used are printed.

2. 2

    ### Count new and cancelled

Subscriptions created and cancelled in the period, with their monthly revenue per currency.

3. 3

    ### List who left

One line per customer who cancelled, with their name, order count and total spent.

4. 4

    ### Explain the change

For Chargezen subscriptions: the cancellation rate, and starting monthly revenue plus every change, checked against the ending figure.

## A worked example.

A made-up store, to show how the playbook works from question to answer.

The store

A tea brand that moved some subscribers from Recharge to Chargezen and still has the rest on Recharge.

The question

"How many subscriptions did we gain and lose in September, and who cancelled?"

What Concierge does

Prepares Chargezen subscriptions, their change history and customer profiles, plus Recharge subscriptions and customers. Sets September as the 1st up to, not including, October 1, and prints the definitions it uses.

What comes back

One block for Chargezen and one for Recharge, each with new and cancelled counts and monthly revenue per currency; a list of customers who cancelled; and, for Chargezen subscriptions, the cancellation rate with both counts and a table from August's ending monthly revenue, through each change, to September's.

How to read it

Check the reconciliation line first: if start plus changes doesn't equal the end, the gap is printed and worth asking about. Subscriptions moved in from another app count as new on the day they were imported, and the answer says so.

A good next question

"Which products did the customers who cancelled have?" or "Compare September with August."

This store is invented for illustration. It is not a Chargezen customer, and no results are shown: your answer depends on your own data.

## The definitions it prints.

Written into the playbook, so every answer counts the same way.

Monthly revenue

A subscription's price turned into a monthly figure from its billing interval: daily x30, weekly x4.345, monthly x1, yearly divided by 12, then divided by the interval count. Exact decimals, summed per currency and rounded to the cent. Subscriptions without enough to work it out are counted.

New and cancelled

New means created in the period. Cancelled means status cancelled with a cancellation date in the period. Status is compared in any letter case.

Cancellation rate

Chargezen subscriptions cancelled in the period divided by those active at its start. Both counts are printed.

Revenue movement

From the change history of Chargezen subscriptions: new, cancelled and expired, paused, resumed and reactivated, and product or price changes up or down.

Comebacks

Reactivations are visible only in Chargezen subscription history. Recharge records and current contracts do not keep that history, and the answer says so.

## Run it, then make it yours.

You don't need to name the playbook. Concierge reads each playbook's "When to use" line and opens the one that fits your question.

In the Chargezen admin

Type your question in Ask Concierge, for example: "How many subscriptions did we gain and lose in September, and who cancelled?" Concierge does the work and replies with the answer and any files.

In ChatGPT or Claude

Connect Chargezen to ChatGPT or Claude, then ask Concierge from the chat. The request goes to your workspace's own agent, with the same playbooks, and the reply comes back to the chat.

In the Finn app for iPhone

Type or dictate the question in the chat box on Home and send it to your agent. It's the same agent with the same playbooks.

Change the steps

Open Concierge > Build > Playbooks, pick Subscription analytics and edit the instructions. Edits apply to new requests; work already under way keeps the version it started with.

Use your definitions

If you've saved a definition for a term the playbook uses, like what counts as an active customer, Concierge applies yours instead and prints it in the answer.

Choose who uses it

It starts switched on for your workspace's operator agents that can analyze store data. Switch it on for other agents under Agents, archive it, or click New Playbook to write your own.

## What you get back.

### New and cancelled

Counts and monthly revenue per currency for each source.

### Who left

Customers who cancelled, with their orders and spend.

### Numbers that add up

Start plus every change equals the end, or the gap is shown.

## Get answers you can check, without the spreadsheet afternoon.

Every Concierge workspace starts with these playbooks. Ask a question in plain English and see the numbers and the work behind them.

## Common questions

### What does the Subscription analytics playbook answer?

How many subscriptions were created, cancelled, paused or reactivated in a period, new and lost monthly subscription revenue, who cancelled, the cancellation rate, and why subscription revenue changed.

### When should I use it?

For a monthly subscription review, after a price change or a migration, or whenever someone asks why subscription revenue went up or down.

### Does it work with Recharge?

Yes, when Recharge is connected. Recharge subscriptions and customers are read from your Recharge connection when the data is prepared and reported separately from Chargezen subscriptions. If Recharge is not connected, the answer gives that reason instead of numbers.

### Do I have to name the playbook when I ask?

No. Concierge sees the title and "When to use" line of every published playbook switched on for the agent, and opens the full steps only when one fits your question. You can still say "use the Subscription analytics playbook" to be sure.

### Can I change how it works?

Yes. It's your workspace's playbook: edit the steps, rename it, switch it on for other agents, archive it or delete it under Concierge > Build > Playbooks. A deleted default playbook stays deleted.

### How much does it cost?

Running a playbook is a Concierge job, so it uses your workspace credits like any other job when Concierge runs on Chargezen-managed AI models. Concierge Starter is $20 a month with 20,000 credits. Pro is $199 a month with 199,000 credits, or $1,990 a year.
