# Display Conditions

Control when and how your one-click upsells appear to customers

Last updated: 2025-01-16

Display conditions give you fine-grained control over when upsells appear, how long they're visible, and what happens if a customer declines. Properly configured conditions ensure your upsells are shown at the optimal moment for maximum conversion.

## Timing Conditions

### Countdown Timers

Add urgency with a countdown timer that shows how long the offer is available:

Countdown Timer Configuration

```json
{
  "countdown": {
    "enabled": true,
    "duration_seconds": 300,
    "display_format": "mm:ss",
    "position": "top",
    "style": "bar",
    "expired_action": "hide_offer"
  }
}
```

#### Countdown Timer Options

* Duration: 2-10 minutes recommended (5 min default)
* Position: Top bar, inline with CTA, or floating
* Style: Progress bar, digital clock, or text
* Expired action: Hide offer, show reduced discount, or continue

##### Timer Psychology

Shorter timers (2-3 min) create urgency but may feel pushy. Longer timers (5-10 min) feel less aggressive but maintain urgency. Test to find what works for your audience.

### Schedule-Based Display

Control when upsells are active based on date and time:

* **Date range** — Run promotional upsells during specific periods
* **Days of week** — Different offers for weekdays vs. weekends
* **Time of day** — Adjust offers based on shopping patterns
* **Timezone** — Schedule based on customer's local time

Schedule Configuration

```json
{
  "schedule": {
    "enabled": true,
    "start_date": "2025-02-01",
    "end_date": "2025-02-14",
    "days_of_week": ["friday", "saturday", "sunday"],
    "start_time": "09:00",
    "end_time": "21:00",
    "timezone": "customer_local"
  }
}
```

## Display Options

### Page Layout

Choose how the upsell page appears after checkout:

#### Layout Options

* Full page — Dedicated upsell page (highest conversion)
* Modal overlay — Appears over the thank you page
* Inline section — Embedded in thank you page
* Slide-in panel — Slides in from side of screen

### Mobile-Specific Display

Over 70% of e-commerce traffic is mobile. Configure mobile-specific settings:

Mobile Display Settings

```json
{
  "mobile": {
    "layout": "full_page",
    "image_position": "top",
    "button_size": "large",
    "swipe_to_dismiss": true,
    "simplified_copy": true
  }
}
```

## Funnel Conditions

Create multi-step upsell funnels with conditional logic:

### Accept/Decline Paths

Define what happens when a customer accepts or declines an offer:

Funnel Configuration

```json
{
  "funnel": {
    "on_accept": {
      "action": "show_next_offer",
      "next_offer_id": "bundle-upgrade",
      "max_offers": 2
    },
    "on_decline": {
      "action": "show_downsell",
      "downsell_offer_id": "smaller-bundle",
      "decline_text": "No thanks, just my order"
    }
  }
}
```

##### Funnel Best Practices

Limit funnels to 2-3 offers maximum. Each additional offer has diminishing returns and may frustrate customers. Always include a clear "No thanks" option.

### Downsell Strategies

When a customer declines your main offer, present a downsell:

* **Smaller quantity** — Offer a single item instead of a bundle
* **Lower price point** — Show a more affordable alternative
* **Bigger discount** — Same product with a better deal
* **Different product** — Try a completely different offer

## Frequency Caps

Prevent upsell fatigue by limiting how often customers see offers:

Frequency Cap Settings

```json
{
  "frequency_caps": {
    "max_per_session": 2,
    "max_per_day": 3,
    "max_per_week": 5,
    "cooldown_after_decline": 24,
    "cooldown_after_accept": 0
  }
}
```

## A/B Testing Conditions

Split traffic between different upsell variations:

A/B Test Configuration

```json
{
  "ab_test": {
    "enabled": true,
    "test_name": "discount_level_test",
    "variants": [
      { "id": "control", "weight": 50, "discount": 15 },
      { "id": "variant_a", "weight": 50, "discount": 20 }
    ],
    "success_metric": "acceptance_rate",
    "minimum_sample": 100
  }
}
```
