# Bring your number

Keep the number customers know. Move it to Chargezen: check it, sign the letter, upload an invoice, confirm the code and pick a port date.

Last updated: 2026-10-18

Keep the number your customers already call and text. Chargezen files the move with the carrier for you, from TextMagic, Attentive, Postscript, Klaviyo, Twilio or another provider. You fill in a short form in the admin and follow the move there until it's done. US and Canadian (+1) toll-free and local numbers can move.

## Before you start

* Your latest invoice from the current provider, as a PDF from the last 30 days (5 MB or smaller). If it doesn't show the number, save a screenshot of your provider's dashboard that does as a PDF.
* The business name and address exactly as they appear on that invoice.
* For a local number: the account number, port-out PIN and billing phone number from your provider, and an active [10DLC registration](https://chargezen.com/docs/concierge/phone/10dlc-registration).
* For a toll-free number: access to the number's inbox at your current provider, to read a code Chargezen texts you.

Don't close your old account yet

Keep your current provider's account open and funded until Chargezen says the move is done. Closing it early releases the number, and it can't be recovered.

## Start the move

1

#### Open Bring your number

Go to **Concierge > Deploy > Channels**, click **Chargezen SMS**, and under **SMS numbers** click **Bring your number**.

2

#### Number

Enter the **Phone number** and choose **Where is it today?**. Chargezen checks the number as soon as you type 10 digits and shows, for example, "Toll-free · can move · texting moves first" or "Local · can move". Click **Continue**.

3

#### Account details

Enter **Business name on the account**, **Authorized person** and the service address, exactly as they appear on your provider's invoice; the carrier rejects a move when they differ. Local numbers also ask for **Account number**, **Port-out PIN** and **Billing phone number**. Click **Save and continue**.

4

#### Sign

Read the Letter of Agency (the carrier's authorization form, filled in with your details). Type your full name under **Type your full name to sign**, tick the box confirming you're authorized to move the number, and click **Sign letter**. For toll-free numbers, sign as the person on the account.

5

#### Invoice

Click **Upload invoice** and choose the PDF. You'll see **Uploaded:** with the file name.

6

#### Confirm it's yours (toll-free only)

Click **Text me the code**. The code arrives in your current provider's inbox for that number. Enter it under **Code** and click **Confirm code**. This proves the number is yours and starts moving texting.

7

#### Review

Check the summary, then choose a **Port date**. The earliest date is 5 business days out, and carriers confirm the exact time. Under **When someone calls this number**, choose **Don't answer calls** or **Concierge answers calls**. Click **Submit move**.

You can click **Finish later** at any step and pick up where you left off with **Continue**.

## Tips by provider

* **TextMagic**: there's nothing to start at TextMagic. Chargezen files the move with the carrier. Keep your TextMagic account open and funded until the move is done.
* **Attentive, Postscript, Klaviyo**: shared short codes belong to the provider and can't move. A toll-free or dedicated local number can.
* **Twilio**: use your Twilio Account SID as the account number, and keep the number in your Twilio account until the move is done.
* **Another provider**: enter its name. Your provider's invoice lists the business name and address the carrier has on file.

## Follow the move

The move appears under **SMS numbers** as **Bring your number · {provider}**, with a Toll-free or Local badge and one of these statuses:

* **Next: {step}**: setup isn't finished. Click **Continue**.
* **Moving**: the request is with the carrier. Toll-free numbers show "Texting moves in about 3 business days" and when calls move; local numbers show the move date.
* **Texting live** (toll-free): texting already works in Chargezen. Calls move on the port date.
* **Needs attention**: the carrier sent the move back. Click **Fix** to go straight to the step that needs a change, then click **Resubmit move**.
* **Moved**: the number is in Chargezen. Now you can close your old account.

If you chose **Concierge answers calls**, the number is ready as a voice number once it arrives. Activate it in Chargezen Voice ([Set up your number](https://chargezen.com/docs/concierge/phone/set-up-your-number)).

Toll-free numbers text first

After you confirm the code, texting for a toll-free number moves to Chargezen before the number itself ports. Customers can text you through Chargezen while calls still ring at your old provider.

## Cancel a move

Click **Cancel move**, then **Stop the move**. The number stays with your current provider, and you can start a new move later. A move can't be cancelled once texting is live or the port date is confirmed.

## Troubleshooting and FAQ

### The checker says the number can't move

The message tells you why. Common ones:

* "Enter a US or Canadian phone number." Only +1 numbers can move.
* "This number is already in Chargezen." or "This number is already being moved."
* "Only toll-free and local numbers can be moved." Short codes can't.
* "Register your business for local texting (10DLC) before moving a local number."

### The code didn't match

Click **Send a new code** and enter the newest one.

### I changed my details after signing

Changing anything printed on the letter voids the signature. Sign the letter again before you continue.

### The carrier rejected the move

The status changes to **Needs attention** with the reason. Mismatched names, addresses, account numbers or PINs are the usual cause; fix them on the step **Fix** opens and resubmit. If the message says to contact Chargezen support, do that instead.

### How long does a move take?

The earliest port date you can pick is 5 business days out. Toll-free texting usually moves in about 3 business days, before the port date.
