# Moving from Google Voice

Move a Google Voice number to Chargezen: unlock it or get the port-out code from Google, what not to delete, and what to enter in Chargezen.

Last updated: 2026-10-18

Google handles a personal Google Voice account and a Google Workspace one differently. Find out which you have, then get the details Google asks for.

## Can this number move?

Google notes that some services may not accept numbers that started out at Google Voice. Chargezen's check tells you whether yours can move, so run it before you unlock anything.

Chargezen moves US (+1) local and toll-free numbers that can send texts. Short codes (5 or 6 digits) can't move. A local number needs an approved [10DLC registration](https://chargezen.com/docs/concierge/phone/10dlc-registration) in Chargezen first, so it can text the moment it arrives. Type the number into Bring your number and Chargezen tells you whether it can move, and why not if it can't, before you fill in anything else.

## What to get from Google

### A personal Google Voice account

From Google's [Port your Google Voice number](https://support.google.com/voice/answer/1065667) (checked October 18, 2026):

* **Unlock the number**: in Google Voice, open **Settings > Account** and click **Unlock** under the number. Google charges $3, or nothing if the number was originally moved into Google Voice from another carrier.
* **Account number**: your 10-digit Google Voice number.
* **PIN**: the PIN you use for Google Voice voicemail.

### A Google Workspace account

From Google's [Port out Voice numbers](https://knowledge.workspace.google.com/admin/voice/port-out-voice-numbers) (checked October 18, 2026), for a Google Voice admin:

* **Port-out code**: in the Google Admin console, go to **Apps > Google Workspace > Google Voice**, click **Number porting**, then **Port-out info**. Google warns that changing the code can get a move in progress rejected.
* **Address**: the primary location you set up in the Admin console, including its ZIP code.

### The invoice

If you don't have an invoice that shows the number, save a screenshot of your Google Voice settings that shows it as a PDF and upload that.

Don't cancel Google Voice yet

Google says not to delete the Google Voice number once the move has started. For Workspace, Google says not to cancel Voice service until your new provider tells you the move is complete, or the request can be rejected. Keep it until Chargezen shows the number as **Moved**.

## What happens on the port date

When you submit the move, you pick a port date at least 5 business days out. Chargezen books the earliest date the carriers allow on or after it, and the confirmed date (the FOC date) shows on the number's row under **SMS numbers**. Carriers set the exact time.

* **Toll-free numbers**: texting usually moves about 3 business days after you confirm the code, before the port date. The row shows **Texting live**. On the port date, calls move too.
* **Local numbers**: calls and texts move together on the port date, and the number joins your approved 10DLC campaign.
* When the move is finished, the row shows **Moved**. If you chose **Concierge answers calls**, the number is ready in Chargezen Voice for you to activate.
* If the move is sent back, the row shows **Needs attention** with the reason. Click **Fix**, correct the step it opens and click **Resubmit move**.

Changed your mind before the move? Google lets you relock a personal number, but not after the new carrier has told Google about the move.

## Fill in the Chargezen steps

In Chargezen, go to **Concierge > Deploy > Channels**, click **Chargezen SMS** and, under **SMS numbers**, click **Bring your number**. Here is what to enter from Google Voice at each step. The full walkthrough is in [Bring your number](https://chargezen.com/docs/concierge/phone/bring-your-number).

1

#### Number

Enter the number and, under **Where is it today?**, choose **Another provider** and type **Google Voice** as the provider name. The check runs as soon as you type 10 digits.

2

#### Account details

Enter **Business name on the account**, **Authorized person** and the service address (for Workspace, your primary location). Google's help pages don't list which name it matches, so use the one on the account that pays for Google Voice. For a local number, enter the **Account number** and **Port-out PIN** from above, and the number itself as the **Billing phone number**.

3

#### Sign

Read the letter of authorization, which Chargezen fills in with your details and Google Voice as the current provider. Type your full name, tick the box and click **Sign letter**. If you change a detail the letter shows, sign again.

4

#### Invoice

Click **Upload invoice** and choose the PDF (5 MB or smaller).

5

#### Confirm it's yours (toll-free only)

If the number is toll-free, click **Text me the code**, read the text in Google Voice, enter it under **Code** and click **Confirm code**.

6

#### Review

Pick the port date, then choose **Concierge answers calls** or **Don't answer calls** under **When someone calls this number**. Click **Submit move**.
