# Local-time sending

Send a SmartyTap campaign at the time you choose in each recipient’s time zone, decide what happens when that time has passed, and respect quiet hours.

Last updated: 2026-10-19

A 10 a.m. email is a great idea in New York and a bad one in Los Angeles, where it lands at 7. With local-time sending, you pick the time and SmartyTap delivers it at that hour wherever each customer lives.

You choose the send time. SmartyTap doesn't guess it for you; it applies your time in each recipient's time zone.

## Send in each recipient's time zone

1

#### Edit timing

In your campaign, select the message and click **Edit timing**, then **Schedule once**.

2

#### Pick the time

Set the **Scheduled send time**, for example 10:00 a.m. on Friday.

3

#### Choose the time basis

Under **Time basis**, choose **Each recipient's timezone**. The message now reads **Recipient's local time**.

4

#### Decide on late time zones

Under **If the send time has passed**, choose what happens for people whose 10 a.m. is already gone when you schedule: **Skip this message**, **Send the next day at the same local time**, or **Send right away**.

To send at one moment for everyone instead, choose **Specific timezone** and pick the **Send timezone**.

## Which time zone SmartyTap uses

1. The time zone saved on the SmartyTap contact.
2. If there isn't one, the time zone on the customer's profile.
3. If there still isn't one, your workspace time zone.

You can see and segment on it: **Stored timezone** is a condition under **Customer profile** in [Segments](https://chargezen.com/docs/smartytap/audience/segments).

## Quiet hours for texts

Texts have a second safety net. With **Quiet hours** on for the message, texts wait until quiet hours end in the customer's local time, even if you picked **Send right away**. When a contact has no saved time zone, SmartyTap works it out from their phone number. Set the hours in SMS settings under **Quiet Hours Schedule**.

Tests send at one time

A/B tests that pick a winner can't use each recipient's time zone, because the winner has to go out after the test. Use a specific time zone, or a test size of 100%.

## FAQ

### Does SmartyTap pick the best send time with AI?

No. You choose the send time, and SmartyTap applies it in each recipient's local time.

### How long does a local-time campaign take to finish?

Up to about a day: it starts when the earliest time zone reaches your send time and ends when the last one does.

### What does the calendar show?

The calendar shows times in your workspace time zone and marks the message as sending in each recipient's time zone.
