# Birthday email

Send birthday points from Chargezen Rewards with an email on the day, and reach birthday months in SmartyTap campaigns with the Birthday condition.

A birthday email is one of the few marketing emails customers are glad to get. In Chargezen it comes with Rewards: on the day, the customer gets your birthday points, plus any tier bonus, and an email telling them so. Points and email arrive together, without a flow to maintain.

## How it works

The birthday email runs on the Rewards birthday rule rather than a flow trigger, with the same parts:

*   **Trigger**: the customer's birthday. Chargezen checks once a day.
*   **Rule**: birthday points at most once per calendar year. The first saved birthday counts.
*   **Email**: a birthday email that says how many points they got.

## Set it up

#### Turn on the birthday rule

In Rewards, set how many points a birthday earns.

#### Collect birthdays

Customers add theirs in the rewards panel, and your team can add it to the customer too.

#### Edit the email

Make the birthday email sound like you: wish them a happy birthday, say how many points they got and what those points can buy.

#### Let it run

Chargezen sends on each customer's birthday.

## Birthday-month campaigns

**Birthday** is also a condition in [Segments](https://chargezen.com/docs/smartytap/audience/segments), under **Customer profile**. Build a segment of customers with a birthday this month and send them a campaign, like early access or a gift with purchase.

Make the gift worth opening

Give enough points to matter on a typical order, not a token amount, and invite customers to save their birthday soon after they join Rewards.

## FAQ

### Can customers change their birthday to get points again?

No. The first saved birthday counts, and birthday points are awarded at most once per calendar year.

### When does the email send?

On the customer's birthday. Chargezen checks for birthdays once a day.
