# Build-a-box subscriptions

Let customers choose the products in each subscription box, with limits and box choices you control.

A build-a-box plan lets each customer choose what goes in their box instead of buying one fixed product. Create it in **Subscription Plans** by choosing the build-a-box plan type.

## Box choices

Choose the products customers can pick from in one of two ways:

*   **By collection**: box choices come from the collections you select, sorted by collection.
*   **By product**: box choices are the products you add to the plan.

Use **Append products** to add more box options to an existing plan.

## Box size and quantity

*   **Display quantity**: show or hide quantity selectors for each box choice.
*   **Limit options**: the most items a customer can put in one box.

## Billing and delivery

Build-a-box plans use the same settings as other plans: interval, minimum and maximum fulfillments, discount or manual price, an optional trial, cutoff days and first delivery. See [Create subscription plans](https://chargezen.com/docs/subscriptions/create-product).

##### Mystery boxes

If you want to choose the contents yourself, use a mystery box plan instead. Customers subscribe to the box and you decide what ships each cycle.
