# Migrate subscriptions to Chargezen

Import subscriptions from Recharge with App sync, upload them from a CSV, or create contracts one at a time.

Last updated: 2026-10-09

Open **Create or import subscriptions** from the subscription contracts list. There are three ways in:

* **App sync**: import subscriptions directly from Recharge.
* **CSV import**: upload many contracts at once from a spreadsheet.
* **Single contract**: create one contract for an existing Shopify customer.

## From Recharge with App sync

1. **Create matching plans.** In Subscription Plans, create an active plan for every billing and delivery frequency your Recharge subscriptions use.
2. **Connect Recharge.** Add your Recharge API token in Chargezen integrations.
3. **Choose what to import.** Open Create or import subscriptions, choose App sync, and pick active and/or cancelled subscriptions and how shipping is priced.
4. **Run App sync.** Start the sync. Chargezen creates Shopify subscription contracts and lists every subscription it could not import, with the reason.
5. **Stop billing in Recharge.** Cancel or pause the imported subscriptions in Recharge before their next charge date so customers are not charged twice.

### How App sync imports

* Only customers with a saved payment method in Shopify are imported. Everyone else is listed afterwards so you can follow up.
* Each subscription gets the active Chargezen plan with the same billing and delivery frequency. You can also import frequencies that have no plan; an existing plan stands in and its name shows on those contracts.
* Subscriptions Recharge bills together (same customer, address, frequency and next charge date) become one contract with one shipping charge.
* Active subscriptions bill first on their next Recharge charge date. Cancelled subscriptions are imported as cancelled contracts so customer history is complete; they never bill.
* Shipping either follows each subscription's Recharge shipping, or one price you set for every contract.
* Subscriptions that were already imported are skipped, so it is safe to run App sync again.

##### Recharge keeps billing until you turn it off

App sync doesn't change anything in Recharge. Cancel or pause the imported subscriptions in Recharge before their next charge date, or those customers will be charged twice.

## From a CSV file

One contract per row, with a header row first (it's skipped). Columns, in order:

1. Customer email
2. Payment method (shopify\_payment or stripe)
3. Next billing date (YYYY-MM-DD)
4. Recurring delivery anchor date (YYYY-MM-DD; prepaid weekly/monthly/yearly only)
5. Shipping fee
6. Variant ID
7. Quantity
8. Current price
9. Selling plan ID
10. Currency

For prepaid plans with weekly, monthly or yearly deliveries, column 4 sets the recurring delivery weekday, day of month or month and day. Leave it blank to keep the plan's schedule. If any row has an error, nothing is imported and each row's problem is listed so you can fix the file and upload it again. You can download a template from the import screen.

## Payment methods

App sync contracts charge the customer's saved Shopify payment method; Shopify subscription contracts support cards, PayPal and Shop Pay. CSV rows choose either the Shopify payment method or Stripe in column 2.
