# Toll-free verification

Toll-free texting verification

SMS Marketing

The review US carriers require before a business can send texts from a toll-free number. Unverified toll-free texts are blocked.

## What is Toll-free verification?

Toll-free numbers (800, 888, 877, 866, 855, 844 and 833) can send and receive texts, but carriers want to know who is sending and why. Since early 2024, US carriers have blocked texts from toll-free numbers that aren't verified. **What the request asks for:** - Your business name, website, address and a contact person. - A business registration number, such as a US EIN. Most providers made this required for new requests from February 17, 2026, with an exception for sole proprietors. - What kind of messages you send, such as order updates or marketing, and how many you expect. - One or more sample messages. - How customers opt in, such as a checkbox at checkout, with a link or screenshot. - Links to your privacy policy and terms. **Common reasons requests are rejected:** - The opt-in isn't shown, or doesn't mention texts. - The business details don't match public records or the website. - Sample messages don't match the stated use. - The website is missing, broken or doesn't show the business. **Toll-free vs 10DLC.** Toll-free numbers need verification. Local 10-digit numbers need 10DLC brand and campaign registration instead. Short codes have their own approval. **How Chargezen handles it:** Chargezen fills in the request from your store details, checks your privacy policy link, opt-in wording and opt-out replies before it submits, and tracks the status (pending, approved, rejected or expired) until the carrier answers. Requirements come from the carriers and change from time to time (checked October 17, 2026).

## Example

A store applies with sample messages about order updates but its checkout says nothing about texts. The request is rejected. The store adds "I agree to receive order texts" with a checkbox, resubmits and is approved.

## Why Toll-free verification Matters

Without verification, your texts from a toll-free number simply don't arrive.
