A local number starts with an area code tied to a place, such as 212 for Manhattan or 512 for Austin, and callers pay for it like any regular call. A toll-free number starts with 800, 833, 844, 855, 866, 877 or 888. It isn't tied to a place, and the business pays for the call instead of the caller. ### Should my business get a local or a toll-free number? Pick local when being from a place matters to your customers, such as a shop, a studio or a service business with a home city. Pick toll-free when you sell across the country and want one number that looks the same to everyone. Both take calls and texts in Chargezen. ### Can I text from a business number? Yes. Every number from Chargezen takes calls and texts. US carriers require registration before a business texts: 10DLC registration for local numbers and toll-free verification for toll-free numbers.
