AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude can now work inside the tools a business already uses. The open standard behind this is the Model Context Protocol (MCP): a subscription platform publishes an MCP server, and any assistant that supports remote MCP servers can connect to it with the merchant's permission.
What an assistant can do with subscription data
- Answer questions from live data: "Which subscriptions renew this week?", "What did subscription movement look like last month?" or "Which SKUs are selling fastest?"
- Look up a customer: Find a subscriber and read their subscriptions, orders and shipments before replying to them.
- Hand off real work: Ask the platform's own agent to make a change, with approval before anything consequential happens.
The safety questions to ask any vendor
- Whose permissions does the assistant use?: It should act as the person who connected it, with their access, and lose access when that person is removed.
- Can it change things without approval?: Reads are low-risk. Changes to billing, subscriptions and orders should go through an approval step.
- Can you see and revoke connections?: Every connected assistant should be listed in the admin, and disconnecting should stop access immediately.
- How is it authenticated?: Look for OAuth sign-in rather than pasted API keys.
How the Chargezen MCP server answers them
- One workspace per connection. The assistant acts as the teammate who connected it, and Chargezen checks that teammate's access on every request.
- Read tools cover subscriptions and subscription plans, a subscription movement report, customers, products, sales by SKU, inventory, fulfillment status, shipments and workspace knowledge.
- Every change goes through Concierge, Chargezen's AI agent, which asks you to approve consequential actions before taking them.
- Teammates can see and disconnect every connected assistant under Concierge → Deploy → Channels → External MCP servers. Disconnecting stops access immediately.
- Sign-in uses OAuth 2.1 with PKCE. No pre-registration or API key is needed.
- Reading data does not use credits. Work you ask Concierge to do uses workspace credits when it runs on Chargezen-managed AI models.
Set it up in two minutes
- In ChatGPT, Claude or another assistant that supports remote MCP servers, add a custom connector with the server URL
https://mcp.chargezen.com/mcp. - Sign in to Chargezen when the assistant asks.
- Choose the workspace, review what the assistant may do, and select Allow.
The full reference, including the permission scopes and OAuth details, is on the Chargezen MCP server page. To see what subscription data the assistant reads, start with the Subscriptions documentation.
