Dynamic pricing

Dynamic pricing

E-commerce

Adjusting prices based on demand, timing, inventory or customer segment.

What is Dynamic pricing?

Dynamic pricing changes prices in response to conditions instead of keeping a fixed price. Airlines and hotels are classic examples. In e-commerce it can mean raising prices on a product that is selling fast, lowering prices on overstock, running time-limited offers or showing different prices to different customer groups, such as members. Use it carefully. Customers notice when prices jump, and price changes on a subscription can feel like a broken promise. Many subscription brands keep the subscriber's price steady and use dynamic pricing mainly for one-time purchases, clearance and promotions. Check local rules on price discrimination and displayed pricing.

Example

For example, a store with 500 units of a seasonal item left in January might cut its price from $30 to $24 to clear stock, while keeping its best-seller at full price because it is selling steadily.

Why Dynamic pricing Matters

Smart pricing helps you clear stock and protect margin, but only if it keeps customer trust intact.
