Model Context Protocol

Model Context Protocol (MCP)

AI

An open standard that lets AI apps like ChatGPT and Claude connect to business software and use its tools safely. Often shortened to MCP.

What is Model Context Protocol?

MCP was introduced by Anthropic as an open protocol for connecting AI applications to outside tools and data. A business system runs an MCP server that describes what it offers, such as tools to call and data to read. An AI app acts as the client, connects to the server and lets the model use those tools during a conversation. Why it matters: one standard connection can work across many AI apps, instead of a custom integration for each. Permissions still come from the business system, so the AI can only do what the connected account is allowed to do. Chargezen connects to ChatGPT and Claude so teams can look up customers and manage subscriptions from the chat, with the same permissions and approvals as their account.

Example

For example, a team member in Claude types "Pause Jane's subscription until next month." Through the connection, Claude finds the subscription, asks for confirmation and makes the change.

Why Model Context Protocol Matters

MCP lets your team use the AI app they already prefer to work with your business data, without switching tools.
