Disclosure: Chargezen makes one of the apps compared here. We reviewed the linked official pricing pages and app listings on October 23, 2026. These are editorial recommendations by use case, not hands-on test rankings. Prices are in USD and may change.
The best subscription app for a supplement brand should handle what happens after the first bottle: a customer has too much product, changes their routine, wants a different flavor or needs a refill without another starter kit. Compare those journeys before comparing discounts. Chargezen Subscriptions requires Shopify Advanced or Shopify Plus. Stores on other plans should shortlist the other options below.
Short answer: choose around your supplement program
- Simple replenishment with a smaller budget: Start with Appstle and Recurpay. Compare the actual revenue tier and the features needed for your next stage, not just the entry price.
- Regimen bundles and editable boxes: Evaluate Chargezen, Appstle, Loop, Skio and Recharge. Ask each to demonstrate changing one component without disrupting the rest of the subscription.
- Retention experiments: Consider Stay AI and Loop when your team will actively operate campaigns and evaluate results. Include Chargezen if predictable subscription software fees are a priority.
- Starter kit followed by refills: Ask Chargezen and Recharge to demonstrate their workflow approach with your actual products and renewal prices. Confirm when the swap runs and how it appears to the customer.
Seven subscription apps to shortlist
| App | Supplement use case to evaluate | Published pricing | Limit or decision to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chargezen | Replenishment, bundles and refill workflows at a flat software price | $199/month or $1,990/year; no commission | Shopify Advanced/Plus only; messaging and Services cost separately |
| Appstle | Bundles within predictable revenue tiers | Business $30/month; Business Premium $100/month; 0% transaction fee | Monthly subscription revenue ceilings: $15K and $100K respectively |
| Recurpay | Lower entry cost for replenishment and boxes | Launch $9/month; Grow $19/month; 0% transaction fee | Grow adds build-a-box; Scale lists a $100K revenue ceiling—confirm your tier |
| Loop | Bundles, cancellation prevention and retention campaigns | Starter $99/month + 1%; Pro $399/month + 0.75% | Pro adds targeted campaigns and prepaid/gifting; compare the required tier |
| Skio | Build-a-box and lifecycle automation | Scale $599/month, or $499/month billed annually, + 1% + $0.20 | Usage fees apply to orders involving a subscription |
| Stay AI | Testing retention offers and winback journeys | Pro $499/month + 1% + $0.19 per transaction | Needs enough program margin and team capacity to justify the spend |
| Recharge | Starter-to-refill automation and configurable bundles | Starter $99/month + 1.49% + $0.19; Plus $499/month + 1.34% + $0.19 | Customizable bundles are listed on Plus; quote required for larger programs |
Which app fits which supplement brand?
Chargezen: consider it when your Advanced/Plus store needs flexible replenishment, regimen bundles and self-service without a revenue percentage. Its workflow documentation covers switching a starter kit to a refill after an order. The customer portal supports everyday subscription changes. Eligibility is the first limitation; also budget separately for messaging and any assisted implementation.
Appstle: a useful candidate when you want build-a-box without a percentage fee. Its listing puts bundles on Business and product swap on Business Premium. That distinction matters for a customer who wants to replace one item in a stack. Confirm the workflow and tier before treating the $30 plan as a complete replacement for your current setup; above $100K monthly subscription revenue, request enterprise terms.
Recurpay: evaluate Launch for basic replenishment and Grow for boxes, cancellation flows and automated discounts, gifts or swaps. Its pricing page also lists a Scale plan with portal customization and a revenue ceiling. Ask which allowance applies to your store and whether your bundle changes work as needed. The low headline price alone does not settle those questions.
Loop: its Starter features include bundles, cancellation prevention, payment recovery and out-of-stock protection. Pro adds campaign capabilities. It merits a demo for a brand managing several replenishment products and retention offers; the limitation is the growing percentage charge and the need to choose a tier around the workflows you will use.
Skio: the Scale feature set includes build-a-box, lifecycle automation, payment recovery and a cancellation flow builder. Evaluate the combined subscriber experience when those capabilities matter together. Its base and usage fees make cost modeling important, especially when a subscription order also contains other products. Ask for an invoice example using your typical mixed cart.
Stay AI: its Pro plan includes A/B testing, cancellation and winback flows, and digital punch cards. Consider it when someone on your team owns retention experiments. A feature list does not guarantee incremental retained revenue: agree how to measure the result after discounts, gifts and software fees. Enterprise customization requires a quote.
Recharge: its published plans include starter-to-refill workflows, payment recovery and cancellation prevention; Plus adds configurable bundles. It belongs on a supplement shortlist even when evaluating alternatives. Compare the tier your regimen needs and include both percentage and per-transaction fees. Existing Recharge merchants can use our Recharge alternatives guide for cost scenarios and switching considerations.
Run these five supplement-specific demos
- Change replenishment timing: Create a 30-day plan, then let the subscriber delay the next order and change future frequency. Check both dates afterward. Customers should manage delivery timing without being told to change how they use the product.
- Edit a regimen: Put two products in a bundle, change one flavor and remove another item. Inspect the renewal price, discount and warehouse order. Ask how different delivery frequencies within a regimen are handled.
- Switch the starter kit to a refill: Complete the first order, then inspect the next product, quantity, price and notification. Check what happens if the subscriber swaps or skips before that renewal.
- Handle excess stock and shortages: Choose “too much product” in cancellation and test a skip or longer interval. Separately, make a bundle component unavailable and check whether the renewal waits, swaps or needs staff intervention.
- Recover a failed renewal: Use the vendor’s test process to simulate a payment failure, open the customer notification and update the payment method. Confirm how retries and the next shipment are scheduled.
Compare the cost of the program you will actually run
Use monthly base fee + billable revenue × percentage + billable transactions × per-order fee, then add messaging and implementation. For illustration, 1,000 subscription-only orders at $50 each means $50,000 in monthly billable revenue. Loop Pro would be $774/month; Skio Scale on monthly billing would be $1,299/month; Chargezen would be $199/month. This assumes no tax, shipping, one-time additions or refunds in the orders, and does not make the plans feature-equivalent.
At that volume, Appstle Business exceeds its $15K ceiling; Business Premium lists $100/month within its $100K ceiling. Confirm Recurpay’s applicable tier directly. Ask every vendor how mixed orders, discounts and refunds affect fees. See our no-transaction-fee comparison for the broader pricing trade-offs.
