ACH payment

ACH payment

Checkout

An electronic bank-to-bank transfer in the US, used for direct debits, payroll and some recurring payments.

What is ACH payment?

ACH stands for Automated Clearing House, the US network that moves money between bank accounts in batches. An ACH debit pulls money from a customer's account with their authorization. An ACH credit pushes money into an account, as with payroll or direct deposit. How it differs from cards: ACH is usually cheaper for the merchant but slower. Standard transfers typically settle in one to a few business days, and a payment can be returned later, for example for insufficient funds or a closed account. That makes ACH popular for larger recurring bills, like memberships, B2B invoices or rent.

Example

For example, a business customer authorizes a $500 monthly ACH debit for a wholesale order. The charge is started on the 1st and the funds arrive in the merchant's account a couple of business days later.

Why ACH payment Matters

ACH can lower payment costs on large recurring charges, but you need to plan for slower settlement and possible returns.
