BIMI

Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI)

Email Marketing

BIMI is a standard that lets supporting inboxes show your brand logo next to your emails once your domain has strict DMARC.

What is BIMI?

BIMI is a DNS record that points to your logo (an SVG file). Inboxes that support it, including Gmail, show the logo beside your messages. Requirements: DMARC at enforcement (p=quarantine or p=reject) and, for Gmail, a Verified Mark Certificate (VMC), which needs a trademarked logo, or a Common Mark Certificate (CMC), per Google's BIMI setup guide. SmartyTap doesn't set up BIMI for you. You can still use it: publish the BIMI record and certificate with your DNS host and certificate provider once your DMARC is at enforcement.

Example

A brand moves DMARC to p=quarantine, buys a VMC for its trademarked logo, and publishes a BIMI record at default._bimi.yourbrand.com.

Why BIMI Matters

A visible logo helps recognition in a crowded inbox, but only after authentication is strict.

BIMI FAQ

Does BIMI improve deliverability?

Not directly. It needs strong authentication, which helps deliverability; the logo itself is about recognition.

Does SmartyTap support BIMI?

SmartyTap doesn't set it up. You can publish BIMI yourself with your DNS host once DMARC is at quarantine or reject.
