Sending domain

Email Marketing

A sending domain is the domain or subdomain your marketing emails are sent from, which carries their authentication and reputation.

What is Sending domain?

Your sending domain is what inbox providers judge. Many brands send marketing from a subdomain such as mail.yourbrand.com: customers still see the brand, and the main domain your everyday mailbox depends on keeps a separate reputation. Setup: prove you own the domain, add SPF, DKIM and DMARC, add routing records for replies and bounces, then warm it up. In SmartyTap, you add the sender domain under Settings, Email Setup; SmartyTap fills in the reply, return-path and tracking subdomains and checks each record.

Example

A store keeps hello@yourbrand.com for customer replies and sends campaigns from news@mail.yourbrand.com.

Why Sending domain Matters

A separate, well-kept sending domain protects your everyday email if a campaign ever goes wrong.

Sending domain FAQ

Should I send from my root domain or a subdomain?

A subdomain is the safer choice for marketing. It keeps campaign reputation apart from your main mailbox.

Does a new sending domain need warming up?

Yes. Start with small sends to engaged contacts and grow volume over a few weeks.
