Take rate

Take rate

Revenue

The share of each sale a platform keeps as fees. For subscription apps, it is the commission or transaction fee charged on every renewal.

What is Take rate?

Take rate is used by marketplaces, payment providers and software platforms. It adds up all the fees a platform charges and divides them by the sales that flow through it. For subscription brands, a take rate shows up as a percentage of every renewal order paid to the subscription app, on top of payment processing fees. Because it rises with revenue, the more successful your program becomes, the more you pay. Chargezen Subscriptions has no revenue share and no transaction fees.

Formula

Take rate = Platform fees ÷ Sales through the platform (GMV) × 100

Example

For example, a brand does $100,000 a month in subscription renewals. A 1% take rate costs $1,000 a month, or $12,000 a year. If renewals double to $200,000 a month, the fee doubles to $2,000 a month.

Why Take rate Matters

A take rate grows with your revenue. Flat pricing means your platform cost stays the same as you grow.
