The main Klaviyo alternatives for email and SMS are SmartyTap, Mailchimp, Omnisend, Brevo, Shopify Messaging and Postscript. Choose by why you're leaving: SmartyTap for email and texts at one published price, Mailchimp for newsletters, Omnisend for email, SMS and push on a budget, Brevo for big lists sent to rarely, Shopify Messaging for simple campaigns and Postscript for SMS first.

Klaviyo is the most popular email and SMS platform for Shopify stores, and for good reason: it is deep, it understands store data and it covers many channels. But stores leave it, usually for one of three reasons. The bill grows with every active profile. Texting is a separate plan with its own costs. And replies, support and marketing end up in different tools.

This post compares six alternatives, says who each one suits, and admits where Klaviyo is still ahead. Prices come from each company's own pages, checked on October 19, 2026.

What does Klaviyo cost and do today?

Klaviyo pricing lists a free plan for up to 250 profiles with 500 emails a month. Klaviyo's Shopify App Store listing shows the Email plan from $20 a month for 251 to 500 contacts and an SMS plan from $15 a month for up to 1,250 SMS or MMS credits. Klaviyo's comparison page lists email, SMS, RCS, mobile push and WhatsApp, and 350+ pre-built integrations. That breadth is the bar every alternative is measured against.

1. SmartyTap: email and texts in one plan

SmartyTap is Chargezen's email and text marketing. Every plan includes email sends and SMS credits/segments, so you don't buy a separate text plan, and replies, chat and calls land in one inbox with the rest of your customer history.

  • Segments that use orders, engagement, subscriptions and loyalty, which helps subscription and membership brands.
  • Welcome, abandoned checkout, browse abandonment, back-in-stock, birthday, after-purchase and win-back flows.
  • A/B tests that pick a winner, Smart Sending, tracked links and quiet hours in each recipient's time zone.
  • Sending-domain checks, warm-up, one-click unsubscribe and automatic suppression.
  • Shopify sync and spreadsheet contact import for the move.

Where Klaviyo leads: Klaviyo has a free plan, predictive analytics, push, RCS and WhatsApp, far more integrations, and lower per-text rates than SmartyTap's 2¢ per segment. SmartyTap's edge is email price (2,500 contacts for $20) and having marketing and replies in one place. See SmartyTap vs Klaviyo and how to switch from Klaviyo.

2. Mailchimp

Mailchimp is email marketing for small businesses of every kind. Its Free plan covers 250 contacts and 500 emails a month, and paid plans start at $13 (Essentials), $20 (Standard) and $350 (Premium) a month for the first 12 months. Texting is a $20-a-month add-on you apply for; unused credits expire monthly. Mailchimp lists 330+ integrations and offers phone support on Premium.

Good fit: stores that mostly send newsletters and want templates and a free start. Less good: stores that text a lot or want deep Shopify segments. More in Klaviyo vs Mailchimp.

3. Omnisend

Omnisend is built for online stores. Its pricing page lists a free plan for 250 contacts and 500 emails a month, Standard from $11.20 a month for 500 contacts and 6,000 emails, and Pro from $41.30 a month for 2,500 contacts with unlimited email under fair use. Texting is on Pro, with US texts from 0.9¢ each at the lowest spend tier, and Omnisend says Pro users get bonus SMS credits equal to their monthly bill. Web push is included.

Good fit: Shopify stores that want Klaviyo-style email, SMS and push for less. See SmartyTap vs Omnisend.

4. Brevo

Brevo prices by emails sent rather than contacts. Its pricing page lists a Free plan that sends up to 300 emails a day once your account is approved, and Starter from $9 a month for 5,000 emails a month, with SMS credits sold separately. That model suits a store with a large list it emails occasionally.

Good fit: big lists, low send frequency, tight budgets. Less good: stores that want rich Shopify behavior in their flows.

5. Shopify Messaging

Shopify's own tool (formerly Shopify Email) lives inside your Shopify admin. Shopify's help center lists 10,000 free emails a month, then $1 per 1,000 emails, and US marketing texts at 1.2¢ each, plus $2.15 a month for each approved toll-free number.

Good fit: new stores that want simple campaigns without another app. Less good: stores that need detailed segments, testing and reporting.

6. Postscript (for texting)

Postscript is an SMS specialist for Shopify. Its pricing page lists Starter at $0 a month with a $49 monthly minimum spend and US texts at 0.9¢ each, Growth at $100 a month with texts at 0.8¢, and Professional at $500 a month with texts at 0.7¢, all before carrier fees. Email is on a waitlist. Attentive is another SMS-led option; its pricing page doesn't publish prices and asks you to get a demo.

Good fit: brands where texting drives most of the revenue. You'll still need an email tool. See SmartyTap vs Postscript and SmartyTap vs Attentive.

How do you choose a Klaviyo alternative?

  • Price at your real size: Put your contact count and monthly sends into each pricing page, then add texts. See how much email and SMS marketing cost.
  • Channels you actually use: If you only send email and texts, don't pay for push or WhatsApp you won't use. If you need them, Klaviyo or Omnisend cover more.
  • Data your segments need: Orders and browsing are table stakes. If you sell subscriptions or run loyalty, check whether segments can see that data.
  • Where replies go: Customers reply to emails and texts. Decide whether those replies should land with your support team or vanish.
  • The move itself: Check you can import contacts with their consent status and rebuild flows before your busy season.

How SmartyTap helps

SmartyTap Starter is $20 a month for 2,500 contacts, 25,000 emails and 250 SMS credits/segments. Pro is $199 a month (or $1,990 a year) for 25,000 contacts, 250,000 emails and 2,500 SMS credits/segments. One credit covers one segment and costs 2¢. New workspaces need a paid plan to send, and there's no free trial. See SmartyTap pricing.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best alternative to Klaviyo?

It depends on why you're leaving. For email and texts at one published price with replies in one inbox, SmartyTap. For a free plan and templates, Mailchimp. For email, SMS and push at a lower entry price, Omnisend. For a big list sent to rarely, Brevo. For SMS first, Postscript.

Is there a cheaper alternative to Klaviyo for email?

Yes, at many list sizes. Klaviyo's Email plan starts at $20 a month for 251 to 500 contacts, while SmartyTap Starter is $20 a month for 2,500 contacts and 25,000 emails, and Brevo and Omnisend start lower still (prices checked October 19, 2026). Compare at your own contact count.

Is SMS cheaper on SmartyTap than on Klaviyo?

No. SmartyTap texts cost 2¢ per segment, and several tools, Klaviyo included, have lower per-text rates. SmartyTap's savings are on email, and its plans include SMS credits/segments instead of a separate text plan.

How do I switch from Klaviyo?

Export your profiles with their consent status and your suppressed addresses, import them into the new tool, connect Shopify, rebuild your flows, authenticate your sending domain and warm up before big sends. Our switch from Klaviyo page walks through it.
