Digital subscription

Digital subscription

Subscriptions

A recurring payment for ongoing access to digital content, software or features.

What is Digital subscription?

Digital subscriptions grant access instead of shipping products. Access is controlled by entitlements that turn on and off with the subscription status. Examples include streaming content, online classes, recipe libraries, premium app features and paid newsletters. Because there is nothing to ship, margins are often high, but churn can be fast if customers stop using what they pay for. Regular new content and reminders of what the subscription includes help keep people engaged.

Example

For example, a fitness brand sells a $15 monthly plan that unlocks its workout video library. When a payment fails and cannot be recovered, the entitlement switches off and the videos lock until the subscriber updates their card.

Why Digital subscription Matters

Digital access can be sold on its own or bundled with physical products to make a subscription harder to replace.
