Entitlements

Entitlements (digital subscriptions)

Subscriptions

The access rights a customer gets because of their subscription, such as content, features or member pricing, which turn on and off with subscription status.

What is Entitlements?

An entitlement is a record that says "this customer may use this benefit right now." It is created when a subscription starts and checked whenever the customer tries to use the benefit, such as opening a video, seeing member prices or claiming free shipping. Entitlements follow the subscription's status. When a subscription is active, the entitlement is on. When it is canceled, expires or stays unpaid after payment recovery fails, the entitlement turns off. Keeping that link automatic matters, because manual updates lead to customers who lose access they paid for, or keep access they did not.

Example

For example, a membership includes member pricing and a monthly class. If the member pauses for one month, the brand may choose to keep member pricing on but hold the class, so the entitlements for each perk are set separately.

Why Entitlements Matters

Clear entitlements make sure paying customers always get what they bought and that perks stop when payment stops.
