Meal kits

Meal kits

Subscriptions

A subscription that delivers pre-portioned ingredients and recipes, or prepared meals, on a recurring schedule.

What is Meal kits?

Meal kits usually ship on fixed delivery days and ask customers to pick meals each week. Easy skipping is essential, because busy weeks otherwise turn into cancellations. Operations drive the model. Ingredients are perishable, so the brand needs a cutoff date for changes before each delivery, accurate forecasts of what people will choose and cold-chain shipping. Pricing is often per serving, with discounts for more meals or more people per box.

Example

For example, a plan of 3 meals for 2 people at $11 a serving costs $66 a week. If a subscriber skips one week in four, they pay $198 over that month instead of $264, and stay subscribed instead of canceling.

Why Meal kits Matters

Meal kits show how much flexibility matters: skips and menu changes keep subscribers who would otherwise leave.
