OAuth

E-commerce

OAuth is an open standard that lets you give one app limited access to your account in another app without sharing your password.

What is OAuth?

When you click "Connect" and are sent to another service to approve access, that is usually OAuth. You sign in on the service's own page, approve a set of permissions (called scopes), and the app receives a token that works only for those permissions. Why it matters for AI agents: connecting an agent with OAuth means it never holds your password, its access is limited to the scopes you approved, and you can revoke it at any time without changing your password. ChatGPT, Claude and other assistants connect to a Chargezen workspace with OAuth, act as the teammate who connected them and lose access when that connection is removed.

Example

For example, a teammate connects Claude to their Chargezen workspace. They approve access on Chargezen's sign-in page, and Claude receives a token, not their password. Clicking Disconnect later ends that access immediately.

Why OAuth Matters

OAuth lets you connect tools and AI agents without handing over passwords, with access you can limit and revoke.

OAuth FAQ

Is OAuth safer than an API key?

Often. OAuth tokens are tied to approved scopes and can be revoked per connection, and you never paste a long-lived secret into another app.

What is an OAuth scope?

A named permission, such as "read orders," that limits what a connected app may do with your account.
