Human in the loop

Human in the loop

AI

A design where people review or approve key AI decisions before they take effect.

What is Human in the loop?

Human in the loop puts a person at the points where a mistake would be costly or hard to undo. The AI does the work of gathering information and preparing the action, and a person confirms, edits or rejects it. Where to put the loop: common checkpoints are refunds over a set amount, messages to many customers, changes to prices or settings, uploads to outside systems and anything legally sensitive. Over time, teams often loosen checkpoints for tasks the AI handles reliably and keep them for the rest.

Example

For example, an AI agent prepares a bulk email to 2,000 subscribers about a shipping delay. Before it sends, a teammate reviews the draft and the list, fixes one sentence and approves it.

Why Human in the loop Matters

Keeping people in the loop for high-stakes actions lets you use AI widely without giving up control.
