The short answer: creator AEO means using creators' reviews, comparisons and how-to videos to give AI answer engines more to find and cite about your brand. Citation studies put YouTube and Reddit among the most-cited sites in AI answers, so honest creator content on public pages can help. Nobody can promise a citation. Brief creators on real buyer questions, then check the answers yourself each month.
This is an education post. Spark! doesn't include an AI-visibility product and doesn't track AI answers. What follows is what you can do with any creator program.
What is creator AEO?
Answer engine optimization (AEO) is the work of making your brand easier for tools like ChatGPT and Google's AI Mode to find, trust and cite. Later's Creator AEO page, a vendor selling this as a service, defines AEO as "the practice of increasing citations within AI models" and Creator AEO as using creators, communities and third-party content to earn them.
The same page says less than 10% of what AI says about a brand comes from content the brand owns, citing McKinsey. That's Later's summary of the research, and it's part of its sales pitch. But the direction is easy to test: ask an AI tool about your category, then look at which sources it links.
Which sites do AI answers cite most?
| Study | What it covered | What it found |
|---|---|---|
| Peec, March 2026 | 30 million cited sources in the US across ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity and AI Overviews | Reddit first, YouTube second, LinkedIn third, Wikipedia fourth |
| LLM Pulse, updated October 31, 2026 | A rolling tracker of AI answers across engines | YouTube first at 9.7% of answers, Reddit third at 5.57% |
Sources: Peec's study of 30 million cited sources and LLM Pulse's citation tracker. They disagree on the exact order, and that's normal. What they share is that public places where people talk and demonstrate things feature strongly, and a creator's video or a community thread can live in exactly those places.
Which creator content is most likely to help?
We can't prove that one format earns more citations, so treat this as sensible practice rather than a formula.
| Format | Why it may help | Make it stronger |
|---|---|---|
| Honest review | Answers "is X any good?" | Name the product clearly; include pros and cons |
| Comparison | Answers "X vs Y" | State criteria and who each suits |
| How-to | Answers "how do I…?" | Say the steps out loud so transcripts capture them |
| Long-term follow-up | Answers "does it last?" | Give a date and time used |
| Blog post or newsletter on the web | Readable text on a public page | Keep the page open and crawlable |
How do you brief creators for AI search?
- 1. List real buyer questions: Use support tickets, sales calls and search terms. "Is it safe for sensitive skin?" beats a slogan.
- 2. Match each creator to a question: Ask them to answer it from their own experience, in their own words.
- 3. Ask them to say the product name: Spoken names show up in captions and transcripts, while a logo on screen may not.
- 4. Ask for captions and a useful description: Text is easier for machines to read than video alone.
- 5. Never script fake opinions: Keep claims true and supportable. Paid content that reads as independent can mislead both people and machines.
- 6. Require disclosure: A paid or gifted review must say so, clearly, wherever it appears.
Don't pay people to post fake reviews or seed fake forum comments. Besides failing your customers, the FTC's rule on fake reviews and testimonials has been in effect since October 21, 2024 (see the FTC's Q&A on the rule). For brief structure, see our influencer brief template.
How do you measure creator AEO by hand?
- Write 10 to 20 questions a buyer would really ask, some naming your brand and most not.
- Each month, ask each question in the engines your customers use, in a fresh session.
- Log whether you were named, what was said, and which sources were linked.
- Note which creator content appears as a source.
- Fix what's wrong at the source. If an answer gets a fact wrong, find the page it came from.
Answers vary between runs, so look at the trend across months and don't react to one result. There's no direct way to tie a citation to a sale yet, so keep measuring creators by tracked sales and treat AI mentions as an extra benefit.
Can Spark! help with creator AEO?
Only with the creator side. Spark! doesn't measure AI answers. It helps you run the program that produces the content: find creators, write briefs around buyer questions, and pay partners from one place, with tracking links so you can see who drives orders.
Spark! is $199 a month or $1,990 a year, with no fee on your partners' sales. See Spark! and pricing.

Frequently asked questions
What is creator AEO?
Creator AEO is the practice of using creator content, such as reviews, comparisons and how-to videos, to give AI answer engines more material to find and cite about your brand. It's an emerging term that some vendors now use for this work.
Can influencer marketing help me show up in ChatGPT?
It can help, but nobody can promise it. Citation studies show that YouTube and Reddit feature strongly in AI answers, so honest public content about your product gives engines more to draw on. Measure it by asking the engines regularly.
Does sponsored content count for AI answers?
Engines don't publish rules we can rely on here, so don't assume either way. Your sponsored content still has to be disclosed clearly, whatever the effect on AI answers, and honest detail is more useful to both people and machines.
How do I measure whether creators affect AI answers?
Run a fixed list of buyer questions in each engine every month, and log whether you're named and which sources appear. It's manual and imperfect, so look at trends over months and keep judging creators mainly on tracked sales.
