Email Marketing

Email marketing is sending emails to people who agreed to hear from you, to sell, inform and keep customers coming back.

What is Email marketing?

Email marketing has two halves. Campaigns are one-off sends you schedule, like a product launch or a sale. Flows run on their own for each customer when something happens, like a signup, an abandoned checkout or a first order. It works because you own the list. Ads rent attention; an email list is an audience you can reach again without paying per view. That's why most stores keep email at the center of retention, with texts for the moments that need speed. What decides results: who you send to (segments), whether you reach the inbox (deliverability), and whether the message gives the reader a reason to act.

Example

A coffee brand emails its whole list about a new roast on Tuesday, runs a welcome flow for every new subscriber, and sends a reorder reminder 25 days after each bag ships.

Why Email marketing Matters

Email is usually a store's cheapest repeat channel per message, and the list belongs to you, not to an ad platform.

Email marketing FAQ

Is email marketing still worth it for Shopify stores?

Yes. It reaches customers you already won without paying per click, and flows keep earning after you set them up once.

How much does email marketing cost?

Most tools charge by contacts or by emails sent. SmartyTap Starter is $20 a month for 2,500 contacts and 25,000 emails; Pro is $199 a month for 25,000 contacts. New workspaces need a paid plan to send, and there's no free trial.

Email or SMS: which should I start with?

Start with email for most messages and add texts for time-sensitive ones, like a cart reminder or a shipping update, once you have texting consent.
