One-click unsubscribe

One-click unsubscribe

Email Marketing

One-click unsubscribe is an email header that lets inboxes show their own Unsubscribe button, so one click removes the person from marketing.

What is One-click unsubscribe?

One-click unsubscribe uses the List-Unsubscribe and List-Unsubscribe-Post headers (RFC 8058). Gmail, Yahoo and Apple Mail use them to show an Unsubscribe button near the sender name. It's required for bulk senders. Google and Yahoo require one-click unsubscribe on marketing email, and Yahoo asks that unsubscribes be honored within two days. In SmartyTap, every marketing email carries these headers, and one click unsubscribes the person right away. The footer also has Unsubscribe and Manage preferences links.

Example

A reader taps Unsubscribe at the top of Gmail; the request reaches the sender instantly and the next campaign skips them.

Why One-click unsubscribe Matters

An easy exit lowers spam complaints, which protects delivery to everyone else.

Yes. Keep the visible link too; not every inbox shows the header button.

Does one-click unsubscribe apply to order emails?

No. It's for marketing email; transactional emails don't need it.
