Double opt-in

Double opt-in (confirmed opt-in)

Email Marketing

Double opt-in is a signup that is confirmed only after the person replies to or clicks a confirmation message.

What is Double opt-in?

With double opt-in, signing up sends a confirmation: a link for email, or a "Reply YES" text for SMS. The person joins only after confirming. Pros: proves the address or number belongs to the person, keeps typos and fake entries out, and gives you a clear consent record. Cons: some people never confirm, so the list grows slower. In SmartyTap, double opt-in is available for texts: turn on Require double opt-in, and new subscribers get a confirmation text and join after replying YES.

Example

A visitor enters her number in a popup, gets "Reply YES to confirm texts from Acme," replies YES, and only then receives the welcome text.

Why Double opt-in Matters

Confirmed subscribers complain less, bounce less and are easier to prove consent for.
