Order management

Order management

E-commerce

Tracking and handling orders from purchase through fulfillment, delivery, returns and refunds.

What is Order management?

Order management covers everything that happens after a customer clicks buy: confirming payment, checking inventory, sending the order to a warehouse or 3PL, tracking shipments, handling address changes and cancellations, and processing returns, exchanges and refunds. For subscription brands, order management also means creating renewal orders on schedule and applying any changes customers made in between, like skips, swaps and one-time add-ons. Keeping orders, inventory and customer messages in sync prevents the most common support question: where is my order?

Example

For example, a customer emails to change their address an hour after ordering. If the order has not been sent to the warehouse, the team updates it in seconds. If it has, they need to contact the warehouse or carrier, which takes longer.

Why Order management Matters

Smooth order management means fewer mistakes, fewer "where is my order" tickets and customers who trust you with the next order.
