Predictive CLV

Predictive customer lifetime value (predictive CLV)

Revenue

Predictive CLV is a model's estimate of how much a customer will spend in the future, based on their history and customers like them.

What is Predictive CLV?

Historic lifetime value adds up what a customer has spent. Predictive CLV estimates what they will spend, often over the next year, using order patterns from similar customers. Uses: spotting future VIPs early, deciding how much to spend to win back a customer, and setting ad bids for lookalike audiences. Limits: predictions need a lot of order history and are less reliable for new stores. SmartyTap doesn't predict CLV. It segments on actual orders, spend, subscriptions and loyalty data.

Example

Two customers have each spent $80; the model predicts $400 next year for one (a subscriber) and $40 for the other (a one-time gift buyer).

Why Predictive CLV Matters

It helps you invest in customers by what they are likely to be worth, not only what they spent so far.

Predictive CLV FAQ

What is the difference between CLV and predictive CLV?

CLV usually means value so far or an average formula; predictive CLV forecasts each customer's future spend.

Does SmartyTap predict lifetime value?

No. It segments on real orders, spend, subscriptions and loyalty instead.
