Forms and popups
Grow your email and text list with SmartyTap popups and embedded forms: the form types, what to ask, how to word consent and what happens after a signup.
Last updated: 2026-10-19
Every customer you can email or text is a sale you don't have to pay an ad network for. SmartyTap forms collect the address, clear permission and a little about what the visitor wants, and save all of it to the same customer record your segments and flows use.
Find the form types in SmartyTap > Tools > Collect Subscribers. Sort them by Popularity or Most recent and pick the one that fits the moment.
Form types
| Form | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Popup Form | An offer, a drop or a waitlist shown over the page |
| Embedded Form | A form inside a landing page, account page or blog post |
| Footer Collection Form | A quiet signup at the bottom of every page |
| Floating Button Form | A button that stays on screen and opens the form when tapped |
| Keywords Form | "Text JOIN to…" signups from print, packaging or in-store signs |
| Shareable Subscribe Link Form | A link you can post in a bio, an email signature or a chat |
| Social Opt-in Form | Signups from your social channels |
| QR Generator Form | A QR code for receipts, tables, events and shelves |
Ask only what matters
Every extra field costs signups. Ask for the minimum now (an email address, or a phone number for texts), and learn more over time. Answers you do collect, like a favorite product type or a birthday, are saved to the customer record, so you can use them as segment conditions later.
Word consent plainly
Email and text permission are separate. A customer who gives you their email hasn't agreed to texts, and SmartyTap sends each channel only to people who agreed to it.
- Say what they will get and roughly how often ("about two texts a month: new drops and early access").
- For texts, say that message and data rates may apply and that they can reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help.
- Link your privacy policy and terms next to the button.
- Never pre-tick a consent box.
- Keep email and text consent as separate choices.
SmartyTap supports double opt-in for texts: a new number gets a confirmation text, and joins your text list once they confirm. It proves the number belongs to the person who signed up.
After someone signs up
- They join your audience. They appear in SmartyTap > Audience > Contacts with their consent saved.
- Group them. Build a segment on List membership, consent or the answers they gave. See Segments.
- Welcome them. Send a welcome email or text while they're still interested. See Anatomy of a flow.
FAQ
Where should my popup appear?
On pages where people are already interested, like product and collection pages. Give visitors a few seconds before it opens, and don't show it again to someone who closed it.
Do I need a discount to get signups?
No. Early access, restock alerts and a useful guide also work, and they don't train customers to wait for a code.
Is this legal advice?
No. Texting rules differ by country and state. Check the rules where your customers live, or ask a lawyer.
