Bring your number

Keep the number your customers already text: move it from Klaviyo, Attentive, Postscript, Twilio or a carrier and send SmartyTap texts from it.

Last updated: 2026-10-19

Your subscribers know your number. When you switch to SmartyTap you can keep it: move (port) it to Chargezen, and SmartyTap campaigns and replies use the same number your customers have saved. Your workspace's numbers serve both SmartyTap and Concierge, so the move is the same whichever you use.

How the move works

  1. Check the number. Chargezen checks it as soon as you type it and tells you whether it can move.
  2. Get approved to text. A local number needs 10DLC registration before it moves. For a toll-free number, you confirm a code Chargezen texts to it, and texting moves first, usually in about 3 business days.
  3. Sign and upload. You sign the carrier's authorization form (the Letter of Agency) and upload a recent invoice from your current provider.
  4. Pick a port date. The earliest is 5 business days out; the carrier confirms the time.

The step-by-step guide, with every screen, status and how to cancel, is Bring your number in the Concierge docs. Start it from Concierge > Deploy > Channels > Chargezen SMS > Bring your number.

What to get from your current provider

Shared short codes stay behind

Toll-free and local numbers can move. A shared short code belongs to the provider (Attentive, Postscript and Klaviyo use them), so it can't. Keep your old account open until the move is done.

Bring your subscribers and opt-outs too

  • Export your subscribers with their consent from your old tool and bring them in. Shopify stores also get SMS subscribers from Shopify; see Contacts and consent.
  • Keep honoring people who opted out on your old tool. Once your number is on Chargezen, anyone who texts STOP is opted out automatically; see Opt-in and opt-out.

FAQ

Will texts stop during the move?

Until the move, your number keeps working with your current provider. A toll-free number's texting usually moves in about 3 business days, before the port date; a local number moves on its port date.

Can I start with a new number instead?

Yes. Pick a toll-free number in SmartyTap > Settings > SMS Setup and start sending once it's verified.
