Browse abandonment
Email known shoppers about a product they viewed and didn’t buy: the Viewed Product trigger, exit filters, 30-day re-entry and an example email.
Last updated: 2026-10-19
Most visitors look and leave. A browse abandonment email reminds a known shopper about the product they viewed, with the one answer that might help them decide. It's a gentle nudge, so it should be short, useful and rare.
Build the flow
Check the pixel
The Chargezen pixel records product views on your store. Only shoppers SmartyTap already knows as contacts, with marketing email consent, can enter.
Trigger
Create a workflow and choose Customer left online store without making a purchase (the Viewed Product event).
Trigger filters (optional)
Limit it to products worth a reminder with Product type, Product vendor or Product handle.
Re-entry
Keep Allow re-entry after a time period at 30 days, so regular visitors aren't emailed on every visit.
Exits
Add profile filters Placed order = 0 since starting this flow and Started checkout = 0 since starting this flow, so your checkout flow takes over if they get that far.
Wait, then email
Add a Time delay of a few hours, then one marketing Email about the product. Then Turn on workflow.
Example email
- Subject: Still thinking about {{ product.title }}?
- Preview text: A few answers that might help.
- Body: Name the product, answer the question people most often ask before buying it, and link back with {{ product.url }}.
- Footer: your mailing address and {{ unsubscribe_url }}.
A shopper who only looked doesn't need a code yet. A useful answer, a review or a size guide does more and keeps your margin.
FAQ
Who gets a browse abandonment email?
Only shoppers SmartyTap already knows as contacts, who agreed to marketing email. Anonymous visitors never enter.
What if they viewed several products?
Each view is its own event, but re-entry decides how often one person can start the flow. With a 30-day period, they get one email for the first product they viewed in that window.
Can this email be transactional?
No. Storefront flows send marketing email only.
