Browse abandonment

Browse abandonment flow

Email Marketing

Browse abandonment is an automated message to a known visitor who viewed a product but didn't add it to their cart.

What is Browse abandonment?

Browse abandonment reaches people one step earlier than cart recovery: they looked, but didn't add to cart. It only works for visitors you can identify, such as subscribers who clicked an email or logged-in customers. Keep it light. One or two messages showing the product, maybe similar items or reviews. It's a nudge, not a hard sell, and usually no discount. In SmartyTap, the browse abandonment flow is live and shows the product the shopper viewed.

Example

A subscriber views a pair of boots twice. The next morning she gets "Still thinking about these?" with the boots and two similar styles.

Why Browse abandonment Matters

Far more people browse than add to cart, so it reaches interest that cart flows never see.

Browse abandonment FAQ

How is browse abandonment different from cart abandonment?

Browse abandonment follows product views; cart abandonment follows items added to a cart or a started checkout.

How soon should a browse abandonment message send?

Within a day, and only once per product, so it doesn't feel like tracking.
