Social proof

E-commerce

Social proof is evidence that other people use and like a product, such as reviews, ratings, customer photos and creator posts, that helps shoppers decide.

What is Social proof?

People look to others when unsure. On a store, social proof shows up as star ratings and reviews, customer photos, "best seller" badges, creator videos, press mentions and counts of customers or subscribers. Real beats impressive: specific, honest reviews and real customer photos persuade better than polished claims. Invented or inflated numbers break trust and can break advertising rules. Place it where doubt happens: near the price, the add-to-cart button and checkout, where shoppers hesitate.

Example

A brand adds three short customer videos and its review rating next to the add-to-cart button on its best-selling product page.

Why Social proof Matters

Social proof lowers the risk a shopper feels about buying from a brand they don’t know yet.
