Employee-generated content

Employee-generated content (EGC)

Influencer

Employee-generated content is posts, videos and reviews about a brand made by its own employees, often shared on their personal social accounts.

What is Employee-generated content?

Employee-generated content shows the people behind a brand: the founder packing orders, a support lead answering common questions, a product developer explaining an ingredient. It feels less polished than ads and more believable. Making it work: give staff simple prompts and a clear social media policy, never force participation, and make sure posts mention the employment relationship so viewers know who is speaking. Reuse the best clips on product pages and in email with the employee’s consent.

Example

A small apparel brand asks its warehouse team to film one "what I’m packing today" clip a week. The clips become its most-watched posts.

Why Employee-generated content Matters

Employees know the product best and are trusted as real people, which makes their content a cheap source of authentic material.

Employee-generated content FAQ

Is employee-generated content the same as UGC?

Employee-generated content is a kind of UGC made by staff instead of customers. Viewers should be told the poster works for the brand.

Should employees be paid for content?

If posting is part of an employee’s job, it’s covered by their pay. If it’s optional and done on personal accounts, many brands offer rewards or bonuses.
