Send time optimization

Send time optimization (STO)

Email Marketing

Send time optimization is choosing when a message arrives for each recipient, either by a fixed local time or by predicting each person's best time.

What is Send time optimization?

There are two approaches. Local-time sending delivers at the time you pick in each recipient's own time zone. Predictive send time uses each person's past opens and clicks to guess their best hour. Prediction has limits: it needs plenty of history per person, and open data is muddied by Apple Mail Privacy Protection. In SmartyTap, you choose the send time for your workspace and SmartyTap delivers it in each recipient's local time. It doesn't predict a per-person time. Texts also wait for quiet hours to end in the recipient's time zone.

Example

A store schedules its Friday email for 10 a.m. recipient time: New York gets it at 10 a.m. Eastern, Los Angeles at 10 a.m. Pacific.

Why Send time optimization Matters

A message that arrives at 7 a.m. or midnight gets buried; local-time sending fixes most of that with no guessing.

No. You choose the send time, and SmartyTap applies it in each recipient's local time.

What is the best time to send marketing email?

It varies by audience. Test a few times with A/B tests or alternating campaigns, and keep texts to daytime hours.
