Smart Sending

Smart Sending

Email Marketing

Smart Sending is a frequency limit that skips anyone who already got a marketing message on that channel within a set window.

What is Smart Sending?

Smart Sending stops campaigns from piling up on the same person. Before a message sends, the tool checks when that person last got a marketing message on that channel. In SmartyTap, the windows are fixed: 16 hours for email and 24 hours for texts. Sends from the same campaign don't count, so a planned follow-up still goes. Skipped people show as Skipped by Smart Sending in delivery status, and you can turn it off per message for urgent sends. Why fixed windows: they're simple to reason about and protect complaint rates during busy weeks like Black Friday.

Example

A shopper got a sale email at 9 a.m. A second campaign at 3 p.m. skips her; the same campaign's reminder the next day still reaches her.

Why Smart Sending Matters

Too many messages too close together are a top reason for unsubscribes and spam complaints.

Smart Sending FAQ

Do follow-ups in the same campaign count?

No. In SmartyTap, sends from the same campaign don't count toward Smart Sending, so a planned reminder still goes out.

Can I change the window in SmartyTap?

No. It's fixed at 16 hours for email and 24 hours for texts. You can turn it off for a single message.
