Feedback loop

Feedback loop (FBL)

Email Marketing

A feedback loop is a report an inbox provider sends back to the sender when a recipient marks an email as spam.

What is Feedback loop?

When someone clicks "Report spam," providers that run feedback loops tell the sender which message was reported. The sender should stop emailing that person at once. Gmail works differently: it doesn't send per-message reports to most senders, but shows an aggregate spam rate in Google Postmaster Tools. In SmartyTap, complaint reports from feedback loops suppress the person from marketing automatically, and complaints count toward the domain's auto-pause check.

Example

A Yahoo user marks a promo as spam; the feedback loop report arrives within minutes, and the address is suppressed before the next campaign.

Why Feedback loop Matters

Mailing people who complained again is the fastest way to lose your sender reputation.
