Lifecycle marketing

Retention

Lifecycle marketing is sending each customer messages that match where they are in their relationship with you, from new subscriber to loyal buyer to lapsed.

What is Lifecycle marketing?

Lifecycle marketing maps flows and segments to stages: acquire (welcome), convert (abandoned checkout, browse), grow (post-purchase, cross-sell, loyalty), retain (replenishment, subscription saves) and win back (lapsed buyers). It's mostly automation. Each stage gets a flow, and campaigns fill the gaps. In SmartyTap, welcome, abandoned checkout, browse abandonment, after-purchase, back-in-stock, birthday and win-back flows cover the core stages, and subscription and loyalty data sit on the same customer record.

Example

A pet food brand runs a welcome flow, a first-order follow-up, a reorder reminder at day 25, a subscription offer after the second order and a win-back at day 90.

Why Lifecycle marketing Matters

Customers at different stages need different messages; one blast for everyone fits nobody.
