Lawn Care Business Software: The Tools Lawn Companies Use, Sorted by Job

Lawn care is two businesses sharing one truck. From April to October it's a route business: the same 40 lawns a week, in the same order, with crews paid by the hour and fuel eating the margin. Around that sits project work: spring cleanups, mulch, aeration and overseeding, leaf removal, and for some companies a winter of snow plowing. Software has to handle the steady route and the one-off estimate.

This guide sorts lawn and landscape software by the job it does, with what each tool does and its published price, checked on each vendor's own site. Some vendors don't publish prices; we say so where that's true. It doesn't rank them.

The short answer

  • Run the routes: A field-service app (Jobber, Service Autopilot, Housecall Pro) for recurring visits, routing, scheduling, invoices and payments.
  • Estimate and cost projects: Landscape software such as LMN for budgets, estimates and crew job costing, or RealGreen for treatment programs.
  • Keep the books: QuickBooks Online or Xero, synced from the field-service app.
  • Answer the phone: A business number that answers while every crew is out, especially the first warm weekend of spring.

What lawn care software has to handle

  • Routes: Mowing pays when stops are close together. Route optimization and a map of your accounts save fuel and drive time.
  • Recurring billing: Weekly mowing billed per visit, monthly or as a seasonal contract, with autopay.
  • Crew time: Hours on site against hours estimated tells you which properties lose money. Look for clock-ins with GPS and job costing.
  • Area-based estimates: Many lawn jobs are priced by area. Measuring from maps saves a drive.
  • Rain days: A wet Tuesday pushes the whole week. Rescheduling a route and telling customers should take minutes.
  • Treatment programs: Fertilizer and weed-control rounds on a schedule. EPA notes that many states require certification for commercial pesticide use beyond restricted-use products (EPA, checked October 18, 2026). This isn't legal advice; check your state.

A rough way to sort them: mowing-heavy companies usually start on a general field-service app. Design-build and large maintenance contracts, where estimating accuracy decides the year, push companies toward LMN. Fertilization and weed-control programs with many recurring rounds are what RealGreen is built around.

Lawn care has lumpy cash flow: a big spring, a steady summer, a thin winter. Keep equipment, fuel and seasonal labor in clean categories so you can see the real margin per crew, and check which plan of your field-service app includes the accounting sync.

Phones and texting

Lawn customers call in waves. The first warm weekend brings a pile of “do you have room for weekly mowing?” calls while every crew is out and nobody is near the office phone. In summer the calls turn into “you missed my gate” and “skip us this week, we're away.”

  • Phone features inside your field-service app: Jobber's AI Receptionist answers calls and texts and can book the visit during the call using your online booking settings; Jobber's pricing page lists it on Plus and as a $29/mo add-on (Jobber). Housecall Pro's CSR AI answers calls and books jobs, and it sells a separate Voice add-on; neither price is on its pricing page (Housecall Pro). If you want AI that books straight into your schedule, start here.
  • A standalone business phone app: For example Quo (formerly OpenPhone): $15 to $47 per user per month depending on plan and billing, with phone menus on its Business and Scale plans. Its Sona AI agent includes 10 calls on every plan, then paid tiers from $25 to $199 a month (Quo pricing, checked October 18, 2026). See our Concierge vs Quo comparison.
  • An AI and texting layer next to your app: One business number for calls and texts, an AI that answers every call and text and takes the details, and a shared inbox for the team. This is where Chargezen fits; more below.

Write a short script for the calls that aren't routine. A tree or limb down on a power line after a storm: tell the caller to stay away and call the utility or 911. Questions about kids or pets on a freshly treated lawn go to your licensed applicator with the product name, not to a guess. Damage claims, such as a broken window from a mower, go to the owner the same day.

Sample stacks by company size

These are common patterns, not recommendations.

CompanyTypical stack
Solo mowerA field-service app on its entry plan, QuickBooks Online or Xero, and a business number that answers while you mow
Two to six crewsA field-service app with route optimization, crew time tracking and autopay, accounting sync, and a shared inbox for calls and texts
Design-build or treatment companyLandscape software for estimating and job costing, or a treatment-program platform, plus accounting and a phone setup that keeps one history per property

A checklist for choosing

  • Does it optimize routes for weekly visits, and can you override the order?
  • Can you measure a property from a map for an estimate?
  • Do crews clock in on their phones, with job costing against the estimate?
  • How quickly can you push a rained-out day and notify customers?
  • Does it handle seasonal contracts, autopay and snow work if you do it?
  • How does it sync with your accounting app?
  • Who answers the phone on the first warm Saturday of spring?
  • What does it cost at your crew count today, and at twice that?

How Chargezen helps

Chargezen isn't a field-service app, and it doesn't try to be one. It doesn't book jobs, schedule crews, write estimates or send invoices, and it doesn't connect directly to any of the field-service or accounting apps in this guide today. Keep the app that runs your jobs. Chargezen is the phone, text and AI layer next to it: Concierge, Chargezen's team of digital employees, makes sure every call and text gets an answer and lands in front of your team.

  • An AI receptionist on your business number: Concierge answers calls day and night with the greeting you write, answers common questions from what you teach it, and takes the job details for your team. When a caller needs a person, it alerts your team in the Finn app and emails or texts the teammates you pick. See AI receptionist and the phone channel.
  • Every text answered: The agent you choose replies to each text on your number, at any hour, and steps back when a teammate takes over. See the SMS autoresponder.
  • Your service area and starting prices: Teach Concierge the towns you serve, your services, starting prices and how skips and rain days work. It answers from those facts and takes the property address for a quote. See approved answers.
  • Photos by text: Customers can text a photo of a bare patch, a downed limb or a missed corner. It shows up in the conversation, where the crew lead can see it.
  • A teammate can join any call: Listen in from the browser or the Finn app, tap Join the call, and Concierge tells the caller you are there.
  • Calls and texts in one team inbox: Every call and text lands in the customer's conversation, so whoever picks it up sees the whole history, not a crew member's personal phone. See the team inbox.
  • Recordings by your rules: Callers hear your recording notice first, and you choose how long recordings are kept. See call recording.
  • The number customers already have: Get a new US local or toll-free number, or bring the number on your trucks and yard signs. See business phone number.

What Chargezen doesn't do on the phone: no phone menu, no ringing a group of phones, and no forwarding calls to personal cell numbers. Concierge answers, and teammates join or take over from it. Your field-service app stays the place where jobs get booked, priced and billed, so a teammate enters the job there from the conversation. If your field-service plan already includes an AI receptionist, use one answering layer, not two.

Concierge Starter is $20 a month with 20,000 credits. Pro is $199 a month with 199,000 credits, or $1,990 a year. Phone and text charges are billed as used. See pricing.

Related terms: AI receptionist, toll-free number and 10DLC. Related guides: after-hours text message examples, painting business software and pest control business software. Software for other trades: plumbing, HVAC, roofing, electrical and cleaning. See how Concierge answers the phone for lawn care companies, or Concierge for home services.

Frequently asked questions

What software do lawn care businesses use?

Most run a field-service app for routes, scheduling, invoices and payments, QuickBooks Online or Xero, and a business phone. Landscape companies add estimating and job-costing software such as LMN; treatment companies often use a program-based platform such as RealGreen.

Which lawn care software is cheapest?

Of the published prices we checked on October 18, 2026, Jobber Core starts lowest at $29 a month billed annually for one user. Route optimization usually sits on higher plans, so price the plan that has the features you need, plus add-ons such as texting and AI answering.

Do I need route optimization with one crew?

Once you have more than a couple dozen weekly stops, it usually helps. Below that, a sensible fixed order on a map works fine.

Does Chargezen replace my lawn care software?

No. Chargezen doesn't build routes, schedule crews, quote or invoice, and it doesn't connect directly to those apps today. It answers calls and texts, takes the details and puts them in front of your team, who add the property in your field-service app.
