Add one-time products

Add an extra product to one or more upcoming subscription orders without making it recurring, and change or reset items on a single order.

Last updated: 2026-10-18

A one-time product ships with a chosen order and is charged once. It doesn't become part of the subscription. Use it for a free gift, a sample, or something a subscriber asked to add. Open Subscriptions → Manage → Contracts, choose the subscription and go to Upcoming orders.

Add a product to upcoming orders

1

Open the dialog

Choose Add one-time product.

2

Choose the product

Pick it in One-time product.

3

Choose the orders

Under Add to these orders, tick the next order and any later dates. You can choose up to 6 orders at a time. The dialog shows what it adds to each order and the total before tax and shipping.

4

Confirm

Choose Add to this order or Add to N orders. Each order shows Added, Not added or Couldn't confirm. If some failed, choose Try again for those orders.

Every-order changes wait

Until the last order you added to has been charged, changes to the subscription itself (swapping products, a new address or a new frequency) can't be saved. The dialog tells you the date.

Change items on one order only

Under Products in next order (or on a cycle in Future billing cycles), each line has buttons that only affect that order. One-time lines carry a This order only badge.

  • Edit for this order: set the Quantity for this order and Unit price, then Save for this order.
  • Properties: edit the line item properties for this order.
  • Remove from this order: take the item off this order only.
  • Reset order changes: shown when the order is marked Customized order. It removes every change made only for this order, including one-time products, prices, properties and shipping overrides.

Other ways one-time products get added

  • Subscribers can accept an offer in the portal with a button like Add to next order. See Upsells for subscribers.
  • Workflows can add one automatically with the Add one-time product action, for example a gift on the third order. See Workflow automations.
  • Quick actions in emails include Add one-time product to the next order. See Quick actions.

Troubleshooting

The button is missing on a prepaid subscription

One-time product changes aren't available for prepaid renewals.

What happens to a one-time item if the order is skipped?

It stays with the skipped order and is only charged if you restore that order.

What happens if I move the next charge date?

When the new date lands on a later order, Chargezen asks whether to move the one-time items to the new date or leave them off.
