Subscription notifications

Edit the subscription emails and texts Chargezen sends, test them, see delivery results and choose when each one goes out through its workflow.

Last updated: 2026-10-18

Chargezen sends emails and texts at every step of a subscription: a welcome, a reminder before each charge, a notice when a card is declined, a confirmation when something changes. You write what each message says in Subscriptions → Customer experience → Emails & SMS. When a message sends, or whether it sends at all, is set by the workflow that sends it.

Edit an email

1

Open the message

On Subscription Notifications, search by name, event or message, or filter by channel, and choose the email.

2

Check the email setup

Open Email setup to set the Subject, Sender name, Sender email and Language. Each language is its own copy of the email.

3

Write the content

Edit the email in the editor, or switch to HTML editor or Plain text. Use Personalization to insert fields such as the customer's name, Next billing date, Subscription items, Skip order link or Cancel subscription link.

4

Test it

Choose Preview & test. Under Send test, enter Recipient emails and choose Send test.

5

Save

Choose Save. The top bar shows Saved when it's done. The More menu has Version history and Templates if you want to go back or reuse a design.

Edit a text message

Choose a message with the SMS & WhatsApp channel. Write it under Message content and insert variables written like {{first_name}}. Available variables: First name, Shop name, Shop email, Manage subscription link, Subscription title, Next charge date, Previous charge date, Delay (weeks), Subscription items, Item name, Item quantity, Card brand and last 4, Card expiration, Cancellation reasons, One-time code, Link. Use Preview to check it, then Done. Changes save as you go.

Texts need SMS set up

If SMS isn't set up yet, the page says Texts won't send until SMS setup is finished, with a Finish SMS setup link. Once it is, the page shows which number texts send from. Choose Change sender to pick a Subscription SMS sender in Subscription settings.

Turn a message on or off

The Sent by column links to the workflow that sends each message. To stop a message, open that workflow in Workflow automations and set it to Draft. A message whose workflow is a draft shows "(Draft, not sending)". A message with "No workflow sends this" never goes out until you add it to a workflow with Send email or Send text.

Delivery results

Email rows show Sent, Delivered, Bounced and Customers reached for the last 7, 30 or 90 days. Choose a count to open the send history, with tabs for Delivered, Bounced, Deferred, Spam reports, Failed and Awaiting confirmation, and search by customer or recipient.

Troubleshooting

A customer says they didn't get an email

Open the message's send history and search for the customer. Bounced or spam-reported emails show there. If there is no send at all, check that the message's workflow is Active and its conditions fit the customer.

Texts aren't sending

Finish SMS setup from the link at the top of the page, then check the sender in Subscription settings.

How do I send an email in another language?

Open the email, pick the Language in Email setup and write that copy. Each language is saved separately.
