Migrate subscriptions to Chargezen

Import subscriptions from Recharge with App sync, upload them from a CSV, or create contracts one at a time, without charging anyone twice.

Last updated: 2026-10-18

Every imported subscription becomes a Shopify subscription contract that Chargezen bills. Open Subscriptions → Import, or choose Import on the Contracts list. The page, Create or import subscriptions, offers three ways in:

  • Single contract: create one contract for an existing Shopify customer.
  • CSV import: upload many contracts at once from a spreadsheet. Use it for any app that can export subscriptions, such as Skio, Loop, Appstle or Seal. See CSV import template.
  • App sync (shown as Recharge sync in the sidebar): import directly from Recharge. See Migrate from Recharge.

Importing needs the Manage subscriptions permission.

Before you import

1

Create matching plans

In Subscription Plans, create a plan for every billing and delivery frequency your subscribers have. Leave the Contract import channel on for each one.

2

Check payment methods

Shopify contracts charge a payment method saved in Shopify. Customers who pay through Stripe can be moved with the Stripe option (see Move Stripe payment methods).

3

Plan the switch-off

Pick a date to stop billing in your old app. Chargezen keeps each subscription's next billing date, so stop the old app before that date.

Create a single contract

1

Customer

Search by name or email. The line under the field tells you whether the customer has a payment method saved in Shopify.

2

Subscription plan

Search plans by name. Each plan shows how often it bills and delivers, and whether it's prepaid.

3

Products

Pick the variants, with quantity and price for each.

4

Billing & delivery

Choose the Payment method (Shopify Payments or Stripe), the Currency (your shop currency to start), the First billing date and the Shipping fee (blank means free shipping). Prepaid weekly, monthly or yearly plans also show Recurring delivery anchor date.

5

Create contract

Choose Create contract. If something is missing, the summary line lists what's still needed. Then choose View contracts.

Your old app keeps billing until you turn it off

Importing doesn't change anything in the app you're leaving. Cancel or pause the imported subscriptions there before their next charge date, or those customers will be charged twice.

Troubleshooting

"This selling plan isn't available for contract import"

Open the plan in Subscription Plans and turn on the Contract import channel, or choose another plan.

My plan isn't in the plan list

Archived plans are hidden. A plan marked "Not saved to Shopify yet" needs to be opened and saved in Subscription Plans first.

"No saved payment method in Shopify"

Choose Stripe if the customer pays through Stripe, or ask the customer to save a payment method in Shopify first.

"The first billing date can't be in the past"

Use the next date the customer should be charged. For a customer due today, pick tomorrow, or charge them now from the contract after it's created.
