Migrate from Recharge
Move Recharge subscriptions to Chargezen with App sync: connect Recharge, choose what to import, run the sync, then stop billing in Recharge.
Last updated: 2026-10-18
App sync reads your subscriptions from Recharge and creates matching Shopify subscription contracts in Chargezen. Open Subscriptions → Import → Recharge sync. On the page the option is called App sync.
Run App sync
Create matching plans
In Subscription Plans, create an active plan for every billing and delivery frequency your Recharge subscriptions use.
Connect Recharge
App sync stays off until Recharge is connected. Choose Connect Recharge and paste your Recharge API token.
Subscriptions to import
Tick Active subscriptions (on to start) and, if you want customer history, Cancelled subscriptions. Optionally tick Also import frequencies that have no Chargezen plan.
Shipping
Choose Inherit from Recharge or Set one shipping price for every contract and enter the Shipping price.
Start the sync
Review the summary, choose Start sync, then confirm. You can leave the page; the sync keeps running and the result is there when you come back.
Stop billing in Recharge
Cancel or pause the imported subscriptions in Recharge before their next charge date.
What each option does
- Active subscriptions: imported as active contracts. The first Chargezen charge is on the next Recharge charge date.
- Cancelled subscriptions: imported as cancelled contracts so customer history is complete. They never bill.
- Also import frequencies that have no Chargezen plan: those subscriptions keep their Recharge frequency, and an existing plan stands in, so its name shows on those contracts.
- Inherit from Recharge: uses each subscription's upcoming Recharge shipping charge, then the address's shipping override. Otherwise shipping is free.
- Set one shipping price for every contract: replaces Recharge shipping on every recurring order, in each contract's currency.
How App sync imports
- Only customers with a payment method saved in Shopify are imported. Everyone else is listed afterwards so you can follow up.
- Each subscription gets the active Chargezen plan with the same billing and delivery frequency.
- Subscriptions Recharge bills together (same customer, address, frequency and next charge date) become one contract with one shipping charge.
- Subscriptions already imported are skipped, so it's safe to run App sync again.
- App sync uses payment methods already saved in Shopify. It doesn't copy card details out of Recharge.
Read the result
Last sync shows how many subscriptions were Imported (and into how many contracts), Already imported and Not imported. Choose Download report for a CSV of everything not imported, with customer email, products, reason, details and Recharge subscription IDs. Choose Run App sync again after you fix what's listed.
App sync doesn't change anything in Recharge. Cancel or pause the imported subscriptions in Recharge before their next charge date, or those customers will be charged twice.
Troubleshooting
Why wasn't a subscription imported?
- No saved payment method in Shopify: ask the customer to add one, or import them later.
- No Chargezen plan with the same frequency: choose Open Subscription Plans, create the missing frequencies, then run App sync again.
- Not linked to a Shopify customer, Incomplete in Recharge or Rejected by Shopify: check the details column of the report and fix the record in Recharge or Shopify.
App sync is greyed out
Recharge isn't connected yet. Add your Recharge API token under integrations, then come back.
"A sync is already running"
Wait for the current sync to finish. Its progress shows on the page.
