Discount Codes

Give creators a discount for their audience, and learn exactly which orders earn a commission: a code works with a tracked click, not on its own.

A discount gives a creator's audience a reason to buy today. In Spark!, the discount lives on a commission profile, next to the commission rate, so every creator on that profile offers the same deal. This guide shows how to set one up and, just as important, which orders earn the creator a commission.

A code alone doesn't credit a sale

Spark! credits an order to a creator when the shopper arrived through that creator's tracked link. A discount code typed at checkout with no click before it earns no commission. Ask creators to share their link (or their bio page), and use the code as the reason to tap it.

Set up a discount on a commission profile

1

Open Commission Profiles

In Chargezen, go to Spark! > Partners > Commission Profiles and create a new profile, or open the one you want to change.

2

Choose the method

Under Method, pick Discount code and enter the code, or pick Automatic tracking and give the profile a title. With Discount code, Spark! creates the code in your Shopify store when you save.

3

Set the shopper discount

Under Affiliate Discount, choose a percentage or a fixed amount and the value. Then set the commission rate the creator earns.

4

Add limits if you need them

Use Minimum purchase requirements (an order amount or a number of items), Limit number of times this discount can be used in total, and Limit to one use per customer. Under combinations, choose whether it stacks with product, order and shipping discounts.

5

Subscriptions

Under Recurring payments for subscriptions, choose whether the discount applies to the first payment only, to a set number of payments, or to every renewal. This controls the shopper's discount. Creators earn their commission on renewals either way.

6

Schedule and save

Under Assigned Affiliate, add the creators who use this profile. Set a start date and, if you want one, an end date, then save. You can also pick a profile when you invite a creator.

What earns a commission

  • An order placed after a click on the creator's link, in the same browser, within your attribution window (set under Spark! > Partners > Settings > Tracking; 90 days unless you change it). The code can be used or not.
  • A tap on a brand block on the creator's bio page, because those taps go through the creator's tracked link.
  • Renewal orders from a subscriber the creator referred.

What doesn't

  • A code with no click. A shopper who hears the code on a podcast, or finds it on a coupon site, and types it at checkout isn't credited.
  • A different device or browser. Tapping the link on a phone and buying on a laptop isn't credited, because the click is saved in the browser that tapped it.
  • A click older than your attribution window.
  • Orders that don't go through your online store cart, such as draft orders you create in Shopify admin.
  • A store without the Chargezen Affiliates app embed turned on. The embed is what saves the click to the cart. See Testing your tracking.
Make the link the easy path

Tell creators to say "use my link" rather than "use my code," put the link in their bio, and keep the code short so it still reads well in a video. If you see code redemptions you can't match to a creator, that's usually code-only traffic.

FAQ

Will Spark! credit an order where only the code was used?

No. Spark! credits the creator whose tracked link the shopper clicked. The code is a discount for the shopper, not a tracking method on its own.

What if a shopper clicked two creators' links?

The most recent click in that browser gets the credit.

Where do I see the code in Shopify?

Spark! creates it as a Shopify discount code, so it shows up in Shopify admin > Discounts with your other codes.
