Attribution Overview
Understand how Spark! attributes sales to affiliates
Last updated: 2026-01-19
Attribution determines which affiliate gets credit for a sale. Spark! uses sophisticated tracking to ensure accurate attribution across devices, sessions, and time.
How Attribution Works
- Click Tracking — When a visitor clicks an affiliate link, Spark! records the affiliate ID, timestamp, and device fingerprint
- Cookie Storage — A first-party cookie stores the referral information on your domain
- Conversion Tracking — When an order is placed, Spark! checks for referral cookies
- Attribution Logic — The configured attribution model determines which click gets credit
- Commission Calculation — Commission is calculated and credited to the winning affiliate
First-Party Tracking
Spark! uses first-party cookies (set on your domain) for reliable tracking. This avoids issues with third-party cookie blocking in Safari, Firefox, and other privacy-focused browsers.
Attribution Models
Last Click
Credit goes to the last affiliate link clicked before purchase
First Click
Credit goes to the affiliate who first introduced the customer
Linear
Credit is split equally among all affiliates in the journey
Multi-Touch Attribution
For complex customer journeys with multiple affiliate touchpoints, Spark! tracks the entire path:
- See all affiliates who contributed to a conversion
- Understand the typical path to purchase
- Identify which affiliates are better at introduction vs. closing
- Configure custom attribution weights
Cross-Device Tracking
Customers often start on mobile and convert on desktop. Spark! handles this through:
- Customer Accounts — Link devices when customers log in
- Device Fingerprinting — Statistical matching of devices
- Email Matching — Connect journeys via checkout email
